Six out of nine scammers sounds like a organized pattern. Jiffy Lube corporate could sniff these places out if they wanted to just by comparing work billed to parts ordered.

*shrug* I worked at a Jiffy Lube (albeit over 10 years ago) here in Wisconsin and didn't see anything like that. I think one thing that made the difference to us then was we didn't work for commission. Straight salary only. So there was never any reason to sell someone somthing they didn't need. As for not doing work as promised--- that's just criminal. It has to be the way their executives have structured the incentives for the district managers, managers and employees that is engendering this behavior.

Jiffy Lube has said they're going to do some retraining. What is "retraining" going to accomplish? It's not like they were incompetent - they were scamming. JL's response is weak. Perhaps they're going to train them on detecting hidden cameras in a car's underbody.

Yeah, the problem with the props to Jiffy Lube is that this is the third time in as many years they've been caught; they always do stuff to make the bad publicity go away, and then they go right back to their old ways. Firing the lackeys isn't going to help, nor is firing the district manager -- this goes higher. As for the content of the so-called local "news" stations, if you live here in SoCal, you watch it for the body count and for the investigative reporting, which has huge influence -- the fact that all restaurants in Los Angeles County (except Pasadena, Vernon and Long Beach) are required to post their letter-grade inspection scores in the window nearest the door is due to Channel 2 (KCBS) doing an exposÃ© on the often-disgusting practises going on behind restaurant kitchen doors. In the Midwest, of course, the function of local channels is for a place for the local map with the severe weather alerts in the lower right-hand corner and the ticker across the bottom. ("Blizzard warning in Allamakee, Buchanan, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette and Winneshiek counties.")

.....That, and living in Tornado/Hurricane land, we appreciate the severe weather coverage. We have two competing stations that will drop regular programming and go live with the weather team when tornados and such start happening. It's a good thing to stay informed at such times!

.....Milking, no doubt. But I'll take it. That sort of thing is one of the greatest public service things local news channels do! We've got a station locally that has a feature called "6 on Your Side." Folks can complain to the station, and they pick out an offending business every week to rake over the coals. Beats watching the ever-popular murder-scene footage on all newscasts!
