Wendy's To Re-Interview And "Reboot" Employees
By Chris Morran on February 2, 2012 12:15 PM
While Wendy's has done an awful lot in the last few years to revamp its menu — new burgers, better fries, fresher ingredients — it hasn't done much to update its staff. But that may change soon, with the announcement that the fast food chain plans to start re-interviewing its employees in an effort to only retain the best folks behind the counter. More »

By Chris Morran on December 21, 2011 11:30 AM
In the over 40 years since Wendy's began slinging burgers, the fast food chain has never been able to slip past competitor Burger King, which seemed to have a permanent lock on the runner-up slot behind McDonald's. But the newest numbers indicate that while the Ohio-based burger joint is set to leap-frog BK into the number two spot in total sales, even though it has almost 1,400 fewer stores in the U.S. More »

By Marc Perton on August 30, 2011 4:30 PM

Shake Shack grew by 133% in 2010, and now has seven stores. Smashburger had the second highest growth rate, at 116%. and now has 93 branches. More »

Wendy's: Where $1.39 Is 99 Cents
By Laura Northrup on August 12, 2011 10:50 AM
Adam doesn't ask for much. He just wants to be able to walk into his local Wendy's and buy Value Menu items for the 99 cents that the chain advertises nationwide. This dream eludes him, though, because all of the restaurants in his area charge $1.39 for the 99-cent menu items. Sure, it's still cheap, but that doesn't mean it doesn't bother him. More »

By Chris Morran on August 11, 2011 10:15 AM
If you're a fast food mega chain in the midst of an image overhaul, it probably doesn't help if some of the eateries that bear your name don't play along. At least that's what Wendy's is saying about franchisees who refuse to install equipment necessary for making the company's newest burger. More »

By Chris Morran on July 15, 2011 1:15 PM
Many of the trademark infringement stories we cover involve mammoth corporations picking on smaller, unrelated businesses, but this one's a bit different. A small chain of seafood restaurants in Florida has filed a $2 million lawsuit against Wendy's over the use of the phrase "You can't fake fresh." More »

Science Confirms In-N-Out Burger Is The Best And McDonald's The Worst
By Chris Morran on June 30, 2011 6:00 AM
Almost a year ago, our survey-loving siblings at Consumer Reports asked several thousand readers to rate burgers from 18 burger chains and to no one's surprise, McDonald's came in dead last. Not satisfied with merely finding the best and worst beef-on-a-bun, CR decided to go for the super-sized option, rating 53 restaurants in five categories to find which ones provide the best food, service and value to customers. Study: We're Getting Fatter Because We Can't Resist Combo Meals
By Chris Morran on December 13, 2010 11:15 AM
It's becoming more and more rare for customers to walk into a fast food restaurant and order individual meal components off the menu. Why do that when you can just order a #4 and get the sandwich, fries and drink together? It makes sense, but a new study says our penchant for buying bundled meals is causing us to eat more than we should. More »

Wendy's Ditches Crappy Bacon, But You Might Have To Pay More
By Chris Morran on August 4, 2010 3:15 PM
For quite some time, fast-foodies have complained that the flimsy, translucent bacon on Wendy's sandwiches like the Junior Bacon Cheeseburger paled in comparison to the Applewood-smoked bacon the eatery uses on the Bacon Deluxe or the Baconator. That's all about to change as Wendy's phases out the cheaper pork product. Unfortunately, that means you might end up paying more. More »

By Chris Morran on August 2, 2010 12:14 PM
Most folks who successfully pull off a robbery at a fast food restaurant are happy with whatever cash they were able to make off with. But not one man in Atlanta, who wanted the employees of the Wendy's he'd held up to know that he was disappointed with his haul — and that they'd better start selling more Baconators in preparation for his next heist. Wendy's Drops Donna Summer Hit Over Misheard Lyrics
By Marc Perton on June 13, 2010 9:00 AM
Donna Summer's 1978 hit "Last Dance" won a Grammy and an Oscar, sold over 5 million copies, and reached Number 3 on the Billboard chart. But none of that matters to the tastemakers at Wendy's. The fast-food chain has dropped the Karaoke Disco Fever CD — which included the Summer hit — from its kids meals because some customers apparently thought the line "when I'm bad I'm so, so bad" was actually "when I'm bad I'm so, so horny." We can only wonder what they would have thought of "Love to Love You Baby." More »

Wendy's Employee And Customer Reenact Jerry Springer Episode At Drive-Through
By Chris Walters on May 4, 2010 6:22 PM
Wendy's employee Lorissa Mendez and Wendy's customer Ashley A. Roberts have been feuding over the father of Mendez's child. Ashley and her two friends pulled up at the drive through at 1 a.m. Sunday morning while Lorissa was working, and according to Lorissa they started "talking shit" about her. Lorissa responded by throwing a cup of fruit punch in Ashley's face. The police were called once Ashley tried to climb through the drive-through window to get at Lorissa. Meanwhile someone at the counter was probably wondering why his Frosty order was taking so long to fill. More »

10 Fast Food Items Worse For You Than The KFC Double Down
By Chris Morran on April 20, 2010 1:42 PM
KFC's Double Down — the bacon sandwich where two pieces of fried chicken replace the bread — has been catching a lot of flack lately; much of it deserved. But a quick comparison of the nutritional (for want of a better word) info between the Double Down and some items on the menus at other fast food joints shows that the "warped creation of a syphilitic brain" might not be as bad for you as a salad at Wendy's. Which Restaurants Are Making Your Kids Fat?
By Chris Walters on August 6, 2008 1:39 PM
Subway's kids' meals came out on top. Only a third of its Fresh Fit for Kids meals, which include a mini-sub, juice box, and one of several healthful side items (apple slices, raisins, or yogurt), exceed the 430-calorie threshold. Subway is the only chain that doesn't offer soft drinks with kids' meals. So how do you improve the nutrition of your kid's meal the next time you eat at a restaurant? A spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association gave the following advice:

"Don't be too alarmed even when [studies] come out and seem hopeless," said Dawn Jackson Blatner, an American Dietetic Ass>ociation spokeswoman. "With a few swaps and switches, people really can make healthier choices at these fast-food joints, especially when the decisions are made before going in.  More »

Upcoming Technology in Fast Food Drive-Thrus
By consumerist.com on January 30, 2006 8:13 PM

In all, the pair collected about 330 cups, more than enough for two round-trip flights for each of them. "It's pretty disgusting work, especially when you grab a handful of chewed meat," says Danielle, who asked that her full name be withheld to ensure that AirTran would honor her claim. "But it's about the only way I can afford to see my family [in San Luis Obispo, Calif.]."
It's getting nuts. The article quotes the going rate for a single ticket as going for a buck fifty—more than it costs to buy the cup with soda at Wendy's. People are literally being paid to dumpster dive.  More »
