Ya know, I have a love/hate relationship with Newegg. Great selection, easy service, great return policy, etc.
BUT... I've ordered rush service from them twice now, and both times the items got to me later than had I *not* ordered it. For instance, just this past weekend, I ordered something at 5:00 pm on Thursday and overnighted it via FedEx. The order didn't get processed until Friday morning, but the item didn't get shipped until *Saturday*-- with no FedEx on Sunday, I didn't get my order until yesterday, Monday. Nice overnight shipping you got there, guys.
I believe their Rush specifies that it must be placed before Noon PST, and some other things (Billing/Shipping address must be the same, etc).
If you ordered something at 5pm in any US time zone, that's probably why the Rush didn't work, and you should also have gotten a refund of your Rush fee in that event.
FedEx doesn't deliver on Saturdays (for most areas), so there was no way that you could have gotten your order any sooner than Monday since you ordered Thursday evening....even with \"Rush Processing\".

That's the caveat of Newegg. I never rush order anything, because it gets to you in about the same time. If anything you *might* get it a day early, but usually it is the same time or more.
Other than that, I agree...price/selection/service is great...I've been using them for about 10 years.

because they are NOT the responsible party. IPEX is the guilty goose.
From the linked Facebook page:
Initial information we received from our supplier, IPEX, stated that they had mistakenly shipped us \"demo units.\" We have since come to discover the CPUs were counterfeit and are terminating our relationship with this supplier. Contrary to any speculation, D&H Distributing is not the vendor that supplied us with the Intel Core i7-920 CPUs in question.
That clear it up?
HardOCP just listed a new Newegg press release absolving H&D from the CPU fiasco and laying blame with another distributor that admitted sending the \"demo units\".
This is why we should not fly off the handle and start blaming people.

Because it wasn't them? If you read the article you would learn that IPEX was the distributer.
Actually D&H turned out not to be the evil distributor.
Oh, IPEX. Well, there ya go. Thats what happens when you buy processors from gray marketers. Shame on Newegg!

So what was to gain with this elaborate counterfeiting? Printing that box took time and alot of money, same with the shapes and the packaging materials. The supplier got cooked, so who loses and who wins?

It seems that the counterfeiters probably spent very little in making the knock-off CPUs and packaging. There is no mention of the cost, but judging on a proper counterfeiting business plan, it would not make sense to spend a lot on packaging and such. They will be sending out a processor of lower quality/specs, so the consumer loses. They stated they were \"demo\" units, but that is corporate talk for fake. Newegg is saving face by saying demo units instead of \"we've been had.\" Newegg is out the cost of the fake CPUs and the replacement or refund, as well as customer faith that Newegg properly screens their suppliers/parts. The customer is out time and frustration. It seems the biggest loser is Newegg, but the customer loses as well. The winner is the supplier.

NewEgg may have lost a little from their customers, but their swit action, and seemingly transparent handling of this while giving the customers options for correcting an error demonstrates that NewEgg cares about the satisfaction of its customers and will do what it takes to make sure that the customer remains happy, and can have trust in NewEgg that they will do the right thing if NewEgg screws up.
Look, Sales took place March 1 - March 4, so it took NewEgg 4 days to realize that this was a widespread problem before they stopped shippment, and withing a couple of days, they had a resolution and internal corrective action.
This is why I personally love NewEgg.
I completely agree with you. Newegg is a great company. I was simply answering the question posed. I think it is admirable that Newegg keeps their customers in the loop. However, some customers may not like that a company as reputable as Newegg, let this one slip by. Their response time is great, but, again, some people may not like that a response was even necessary. Companies that quickly own up to their mistakes/mishaps are OK in my book, though.

The CPUs weren't even CPUs. Just a metal slug with a sticker on top to make it look real. This was definitely a case of ye olde switcheroo. Somebody nabbed these sealed CPUs from inventory and replaced them with some very convincing fakes.... convincing enough that a cursory glance from folks in the packing department wouldn't have given it a second thought. The fakers also appeared to want their fake box to have a similar weight to a real one.

New Egg has gone down hill in the past year.
I had to stop shopping there after they kept screwing up and with it being such a hassle for them to fix their mistakes.

That's news to me. I swear by NewEgg. I buy something from them every couple of weeks. I will agree that their shipping ain't as fast as it used to be, but then again, they have grown a lot over the past few years. They do a lot more business than they used to, and even though shipping takes a bit longer than it used to, it's still fine by me. Been a loyal customer of theirs for ages, and they've never done me wrong.
NewEgg only sells the products, they don't make the damn things. I don't know how they wronged you, but maybe it's the manufacturer's fault and not theirs. NewEgg is the shit, plain and simple. At this point, I don't think there's anything short of them seizing my house and holding my parrot hostage that would make me not want to do business with them. : )

I've learned over the years that the customers who often claim to have difficulties are often the most difficult customers to deal with.
Was it here that I recently read about \"ghost shifts\" at Chinese hitec factories? Employees would sneak back in at night and make products using rejected materials and sell them to pirates. They in turn package them to make them look legitimate.
I remember this was discovered when someone bought some memory from a reputable manufacturer (Kingston... I think) and it all turned out to be faulty. The manufacturer was able to figure out it was not a real product and that it had been made by rouge employees at their own factory using chips they had rejected.
On a similar vein, I've heard estimates that over 50% of the drugs now sold in Africa are actually pirated knockoffs made of who-knows-what. The pharmaceutical pirates are getting so good with their packaging now that it takes a chemical analysis of the product to detect fraud.

It wasn't the label (which was Kingston, who incidentally doesn't manufacture) who discovered the perfidy but the uber elite hacker who purchased the chip. Also it may not have been ghost shifting, these things are hard to figure out.

Mostly calcium and sugar, in pill form. Probably effective against heartburn and not much else.
I love newegg. I've never had a problem with anything I have ordered from them, and it has always been delivered within a week of ordering. I don't bother with any extra \"rush\" charges. Honestly if you need it before 5-7 days maybe online retail is not for you.

I think calling the fakes \"demo units\" is a bit misleading, but at least Newegg is acting quickly to fix the problem. They really can't do much more than that, can they?
I've done business with NewEgg for years. I've had one or two problems with items I ordered - after I'd received them. They always handled the issue promptly - I had no complaints. That said, when you have as many products as they do, it's simply impossible to scrutinize every box that comes in.
When you want to do business w/a supplier - you do the dog 'n pony show, meet 'n greets, get some samples (which were probably 100% on the money authentic), and then start shipping in. You don't worry about it too much unless the packaging is obviously damaged, or until customers complain.
Then you investigate and make it right. Remember: We're all human and make mistakes. Companies are staffed by (well mostly) humans who also make mistakes. So it's not whether or not a mistake will happen - yes it will. It's HOW the company responds and deals with the mistake that defines them.
Compare and contrast: Toyota (stick your head in the sand, deny, confirm nothing) v. NewEgg (yes, it's a problem, we want to refund or give you the new one IN ADVANCE - just let us know)...
