State medical boards should have records on every doctor licensed to practice in their state.

Yes, your state medical licensing board will usually have a website where you can type the last name of the doctor and look up their license to see if it is valid and current. Depending on your state, you may also see if they have been punished in the past for questionable or dangerous practices.
Look up on google your state's name with \"Medical Licensing\" it should be fairly easy to find. If you have trouble, call the state or local department of health and ask what the web address is.
If your state does not have a website set up, you can probably call the department of health to ask about a doctor by last name - they can look it up for you.

What I find interesting is that the article does not appear to indicate that he was turned in by anyone who he performed a 'procedure' on. So it seems like it might be between consenting adults.

The consent is not really informed though if the guy is lying about his qualifications.
He may actually be skilled, but that doesn't mean it was lawful. Whether the people who received the work are happy with it is irrelevant. This law is to protect the public in general.

I kind of have an issue with the neighbor's statement. So, what is the crime here...apparently gay men hanging out, doing who knows what. We have a group of adults doing something against the law, however, I've never been one for laws where there are no victims. Obviously if you are getting surgery done on someone's bed in their bedroom, and it is someone you met on craigslist, you aren't exactly expecting them to be a professional, even if they say they are. Everyone is consenting, and apparently the people aren't pressing charges...

As per sir eccles, lots of Jewish pediatricians mohel it up on the side.
The rabbi stands there and prays during the procedure.
The last circumcision I went to was actually done by a Hindu pediatrician, no mohel being available within a 3-hour drive, while the rabbi did the praying. It was in the hospital nursery (the baby had been discharged, but they went back and used the nursery's surgical area) and the nearby baby under the bili light seemed very entertained by the singing.
But yeah, unless you're in an Orthodox community (and sometimes even then), it's pretty usual to use a doctor -- ideally a mohel-doctor, but even a non-Jewish-doctor with a rabbi supervising is also valid.
It was the Hindu doctor's first bris. He said it was the most entertaining circumcision he'd ever done, but he did keep asking the rabbi, \"now do I cut? now do I cut? now do I cut?\"
So, yeah, best public genital surgery I've ever been to.
Mohels not Rabbis usually perform the procedure and are often normal doctors who perform the ritual services as a side job.
amazing that circumcision remains legal considering it's very damaging effects sexually and very questionable and highly disputed claims of benefits, why would anyone do that to themselves...... or worse others, it's just sickening what people will do for a profit.....
you know some hospitals sell off the amputated foreskin to skin care companies for more profit, and of course the patient's parents are informed of this (sarcasm)

Yes, but humans can be really disgusting critters. Personally, I don't plan on having any future sons of mine circumcised unless they choose so themselves, but I can see the reasoning behind it. If nothing else, it helps keep it clean(er) in an area that really benefits from some upgraded hygiene. Although I highly doubt there is some covert EVIL SKIN CARE COMPANY OF PENIS-SKIN-SNIPPY-DOOM that is stealing foreskins to test their products on. Hell, even if they are, what would you prefer the skin to be used for? Tiny fleshy pinky rings? (Or.. not so tiny. Ya never know.)
Parents make choices for their children every day. They decide which schools they attend. They decide to get hem glasses or maybe contacts. They decide to provide orthodontics. Sometimes they might decide to have wisdom teeth pulled. They decide to force them into haircuts. They force them to wear specific clothes. If they are severely burned they might decide to give them plastic surgery.
Circumcision is not mutilation. I can assure you most men who are circumcised still enjoy sex. Whether it be for asthsetic, religious, orhealth reasons is really NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
And I can assure you that if half your foreskin nerves are removed, you can only feel with the other half. In addition, the protective covering is removed, that remaining half becomes dried out and numbed from rubbing clothing. The foreskin and glans should be about as sensitive to touch as the tongue and lips. Later in life, the glans will become keratinized, essentially making it calloused.
This kind of modification should be determined by the patient, not their parents.

I used to be completely against the practice, comparing it in my head to the same on females and never having had it done to myself. But after having seen some others' bodies (if you're interested just wikipedia foreskin) I could see how partial circumcisions could be nice if the skin was far past the tip of the penis: one for sanitary reasons, two for looks, and three for sexual satisfaction. That much extra skin during sex could be pinched, make it harder for penetration, et cetera. But I am definitely against full circumcision not because of the temporary pain it could cause, but because the foreskin has many nerve endings and dulls the pleasure of sex. Any mother that wants this for her son should have to operation paired with her own circumcision.
It's sad that circumcissions on newborns are a normal, accepted procedure here. Unless there's a condition of phimosis, it should be the exception. The skin exists for good reason. The reasons given for its removal are generally shallow.
The only good thing in this situation is that these were adult men, so they were making their own decision. Newborns don't have the luxury.
If these guys really expected to find a reputable doctor or surgeon on Craigslist, they're quite ignorant. If any of them have had complications as a result of this 'surgeon', they are likely too embarrassed to admit it.
How many circumcision consent forms have you signed that you are able to state that parents are not informed of the use of the foreskin after circumcision?
Also, a large percentage of infant circumcisions today are performed with a plastibell, which means the foreskin falls off on its own, about a week later, and it's up to the parent to decide what to do with it.
But intactivists aren't usually too informed about either the procedure or the science, so I'm not surprised.
I am not sure how that makes it any better. It still involves forced retraction and removal of a healthy part of the body. This is not a hair cut we are talking about here. You can’t undo it. There is no justification for it. It leaves a permanent scar on a person who has had absolutely no say in the matter. If somebody did this to their daughter, or to another part of the body, they would be thrown in jail for criminal child abuse.

I am an OB nurse, and the foreskins of the baby boys who are circumcised in our hospital are donated (NOT sold) to a larger trauma hospital to be used for skin grafts. It also says that on the consent sheet.
Do you personally feel that permanently removing healthy tissue from people that cannot consent to it themselves is morally justifiable? The whole sold vs donated thing seems like a huge red herring when the issue is inflicting trauma on people on a daily basis.
I'm not a big fan of it. I participate because there are parents who want that for their children and that is their choice, provided they are fully informed about the procedure and its risks. I don't think it's a procedure that should be done \"because everyone else does it\". Would I have my own son circumcised? Probably not. But I don't feel that I should be making that decision for other people.

I know you didn’t post to get into a discussion, and I apologise if I’m causing any cognitive dissonance, but I do not understand why somebody in a position such as yours is willing to participate in the non-consensual genital modification of young children.
If there were parents that wanted their daughter’s clitoral prepuce to be removed (or any other sort of surgical procedure for their newborn that is not medically indicated), would you also agree to allow that to happen because it’s what they want? If not, why is this different?
Before you answer, remember that just because something is culturally acceptable does not mean that it is right or just. Beating women and lynching blacks were once culturally acceptable in America, too.
At the risk of proselytising, I hope that, given the opportunity, you’ll choose to speak up instead of acquiescing to parents that misguidedly end up harming their children. As an OB/GYN nurse, you’re in a position where you can really do something to help influence positive change and stop child abuse.

There are some really stupid people out there and this is just an example.
A couple of years ago, I listed my Airstream travel trailer on ebay. I got lots of bids up well into the thousands of dollars and as much as a thousand miles away. Only one of them actually came to inspect the trailer before the auction ended and he happened to be the successful bidder. ebay doesn't put up with a winning bidder not following through with the sale and if someone else had been the successful bidder and came to pick up the trailer and had buyer's remorse, they could have lost their ebay privileges.
Any man who would actually want to be circumcised tells me he is not the brightest light on the Christmas tree.
