I mean, the track record shows that anytime the major network execs let something remotely controversial slip through, they're flooded with phone calls from Puritan America. Wasn't it just recently that everyone threw a huge fit over Adam Lambert's performance as some award show? He's not personally my favorite person either but there was a great big to-do over it. <br />I blame the execs for not growing some balls, but I also blame the Bible thumping Midwestern housewives who freak out, write angry letters and cause advertisers to fearfully leave to avoid the controversy (that's what it all comes down to, right, the advertisers?). <br />All and all, it just makes me miss At least on the radio, you can say god. And three sentences later, you can say damn. But if you say god damn, you get bleeped out. If it's only the context that's offensive, not the word itself, then it seems like everything should be allowed to be broadcast, as long as the context is inoffensive. </p><p>Taking a shit, and taking a crap have the same meaning, but one is allowed and one isn't.  Neither are particularly offensive. But, \"you're a stupid piece of shit\" and \"you're a stupid piece of crap\" are both as offensive as go to hell, and one is allowed, just because of the word choice. They will let the American Taliban run a propaganda piece during the Super Bowl but they have smacked down anything even slightly um.. these are not even controversial or potential FCC violations. The overprotective editing and refusal of ads compared to letting a propaganda piece be aired by an extremist group seems very odd. I usually have no opinion of the Super Bowl but all of this nonsense CBS is pulling has really turned me off. Don't they pick who gets to air the Super Bowl each year?
