Modern pennies are only copper plated. </p><p>I used to sell Cutco knives, and part of the demo involves cutting a penny in half with some heavy duty shears. The modern Zinc pennies are (once you get your hand strength up, which takes a few days) like butter. Plus any loose change she finds on the floor is hers to keep, although so far she has more fun doing Bill Nye experiments with pennies than any other use.</p><p>There are some fun free printable fake bills around for kids...parents should google.
