Select batches of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball do not contain enough thiamine, which is an essential nutrient for cats. Without it, they could develop thiamine deficiency. If untreated, this disorder could result in death, says the AP. Symptoms of thiamine deficiency include: decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss.         <![CDATA[<p>Diamond has had many recalls but at least they are being honest when something has gone wrong, well most of the time anyway. Diamond bought Canidae. After the purchase they changed the formula but didn't note it on the bags or inform the public. They added pea hulls, essentially filler to a really expensive pet food. Our dog got really ill and then refused to eat. After a huge vet bill and weeks of caring for a really sick dog 24/7 she recovered. </p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>Thiamine in cat food is an important safeguard.  It insures that if the cats ever get off the island, without cat food they will develop a thiamine deficiency and die before they can breed and completely overrun the mainland.</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>I don't know about thiamine in particular but a lot of the nutrients in the ingredients are destroyed by the heat they use in cooking it. They couldn't sell it to you in big, shelf-stable bags if it weren't highly processed. They end up adding the destroyed nutrients back in. This is why increasing numbers of pet owners are switching to raw meat diets. </p>]]>

<p>True, the website reviews dog food and not cat food, but it's not hard to figure that if the company is producing poor dog food, the quality probably isn't too great across  any of their products. </p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>Wood rats do indeed contain thiamine.  It's found in meat, poultry, whole grains, etc.  My guess is that the food had too much "filler" and not enough food.</p>]]>
