I'm thinking this only applies to nooks that were purchased when the expected ship date was still before Christmas, since I haven't heard anything about this...

I just checked the status of my order and it had the \"I still want this\" so I clicked it...now it is showing Jan 22nd 2010. I called and she said that it is still supposed to ship tomorrow overnight delivery and to ignore the site. I sure hope they just this crap straightened out...this is kind of souring my taste for B&N!

I've been looking into getting an E-book reader and would like a Kindle. I've been turned off of them by the whole steal my book after I bought it act, as well as DRM.

This is what kept me away from purchasing an e-book reader, however I finally made the jump and purchased a Kindle. It is a great device. The DRM on books and content is still an issue, but it is so nice to carry this instead of having to carry multiple books. I really like that you can get magazine and newspaper subscriptions. It still needs a little work, but it's nice not to have to carry paper and you get the subscription wirelessly delivered when it hits the stands. Pretty cool.
The Kindle price point isn't bad, $259 is do-able. Much better than the price of the DX.

I received the same letter and no offer of a gift card...... I originally ordered the Nook on November 9th.

Now this is a case of a Company going above and beyond what most people would expect in this day and age.. and you know what? I LIKE IT! I only hope other Companies get the hint and learn from this shining example.

I wonder if this includes Nooks that are delayed on the fault of the deliverer? ie, it is scheduled to be delivered before Dec 24, but it doesn't.
If I knew $100 was in the offering, I would have pre-ordered a Nook. I am curious about the tech but not willing to pay $250ish for it. $150 (cause of the card) is right in that sweet spot where my curiousity overcomes concerns of an empty wallet.
Looks like B&N is trying to keep the bad press down. This should go over fine until the battery is only lasting 3 or 4 days due to the color lcd screen at the bottom of the device.
It should be noted that they're offering a $100 B&N.com (meaning online ONLY, not instore) Gift Card. Presumably so you can link it to your nook and use it to buy eBooks, but it's of absolutely no use in a brick and mortar B&N location.

Which is fine because most of B&N's products are cheaper online than they are in the store anyway.
A nice gesture, but I'll still remember the fact that B&N rushed this product to market to hit the holidays and seriously botched it. Is there even a unit in stores yet for people to play around with? It seems that stores were pretty clueless as to what was going on (not their fault, of course, that 100% falls on management).

I was told by an executive in customer service at B&N that this only applies if they do not ship the nook by December 23. If they get it out of the door with three day shipping then you get no $100 credit and nothing to put under the tree.
I order in November and my ship date has slipped from December 13 to 15 to 21 to 23.
I have been trying to find out the underlying problem and that is B&N does not know how to move merchandise. Get this - they have a Nook manufactured in China. It arrives on the West Coast of the U.S. then gets shipped across the country to New Jersey. Once in New jersey they open the shipping container and ship out to consumers by UPS.
All of the Christmas Nooks are sitting in containers on trucks or trains in a blizzard somewhere back east. My fingers are poised above the Kindle purchase button as we speak.
I agree that blame is on management. They are doing everything they can to tempt people into keeping their order and not going with the Kindle. I think the $100 credit is a ruse.
I expect I will not have the Nook for Christmas and will have no credit. It will be somewhere in limbo in UPS. To make matters worse, they are shipping from New Jersey. They can say they gave it to UPS but packages have a habit of vanishing in New Jersey - if you know what I mean.
I have had multiple phone calls and email exchanges with B&N. The customer service people give me a different story and different ship date every time. They should learn from Apple.
Wow. I missed out on that email. I ordered Nov.11. I did not get it gift wrapped. I'm going out on a limb here, but, I'm guessing if you did not get it gift wrapped you will not get the gift card.
I got an email saying my shipment was slightly delayed....but nothing about this $100 gift certificate. Just said my shipment was delayed, but upgraded shipping for it to arrive...anyone else get the same thing? I'd rather it come late and get a $100 obviously haha
B&N is ridiculous.
I ordered a Nook on NOVEMBER 9th and have yet to receive it. Initially my ship date was December 11th. Now they have moved it back to January 18th!!
I haven't gotten any offer for $100 or anything close.
I could understand this if I was ordering in the same month as Christmas, but I ordered this a month and a half ago, and B&N has moved the expected ship date back over a month.
I ordered a Nook as a Christmas gift on November 16th and was also upset when the shipping date kept getting pushed back, but I received an email on December 18th promising that the Nook would arrive by December 24th and upgrading me to overnight shipping at no cost, implying that it would arrive on the 23rd at the latest. According the the UPS tracking information, the Nook didn't even get shipped out until after 5pm on December 23rd and after updating the information this morning, the unit had been delayed and would not arrive until December 28th.
I called up customer service and explained the situation to them, assuming that I would now be receiving the $100 gift card that other customers (who ordered after me) were being promised. Boy was I wrong! They refused to give me the gift card, refused any discount, and didn't even offer so much as an apology. I asked them how it was possible that customers who placed their order after me were being given preferential treatment and they had no answer. George, the representative that I spoke with refused to let me speak to a supervisor, saying that he was an \"account specialist\" and that no one was above him. He even refused to give me the name of the person that he reports to. This (lack of) customer service is unacceptable at any time, let alone on Christmas Eve when you have to explain to a loved one that they don't have a gift under the tree this year because you have been misled and lied to for the past month by the company who promised to deliver the gift on time.
That's nice enough of them that I might not actually complain if this happened to me. That's more than a third of the purchase price of the thing!
