While I'm all for them moving to Verizon, what good does it do that condense the size of the phone to a 2.8\" screen?  Verizon gets a model that is crippled in size and, ultimately, less-appealing than the OG 3.5\" screens AT&T has been enjoying and that has since set the standard for touchscreen smart phone design. It's SBC, formerly Southern Bell, a \"baby Bell\", which purchased Cingular, and then purchased the \"old\" AT&T and took its name. I did it through the Apple website, all the checks were done, the setup for my number migration completed, and then I went over to the Apple Store on 14th avenue.  They pulled up my information, confirmed it, swiped my card for payment, and confirmed completion. In other words we all use iPhones.  What's hilarious though is the coverage on our floor sucks so bad we're limited to about 8 square feet right outside the elevator where we can get reception.  So if any of us have to make a call we literally go stand in this tiny square and everybody waits their turn to use their cellphone.  It's so ridiculous it's funny.  I finally got a crappy $30/month Verizon phone.  If someone important calls on my iPhone, then I call them back on my Verizon phone which has a perfect signal. I got an additional Verizon phone so I could truly have the phone part of the i. I has the same problem in NY. Until I teased out the advise to DISABLE 3G from a genius barista. (I've not touched my Verizon phone since). We make phone calls only.</p><p>They insisted that it must be the fault of our phones (a Motorola and a Samsung) or our SIM cards (big chuckle on that one!), but refused to provide new phones of any sort without forcing us into a new lengthy contract, not acceptable when they are not providing adequate service.</p><p>So, I bought brand-new unlocked major name-brand phones, and swapped in our SIM cards, and lo and behold, reception was still spotty all over Manhattan, just like it is for everyone else.</p><p>Reception was excellent up until early last fall on the Upper East Side.  </p><p>But the tiny number of minutes we are using is clearly much lower than the number of minutes in our current plans, so I am demanding and getting substantial credits every month, and I suspect I will continue to get them for the foreseeable future.</p><p>What they clearly need is more capacity. There is a lot of fraud in the NYC Market, in pretty much EVERYTHING and I can see why at&t would want to avoid that when it's so easy to get anything online. Spotty service, or not, the company is still a company and it wants to make money. So many people want to purchase iphones over seas and that's just a loss for many. If you wanna purchase and iPhone in the NYC area, why not just walk in to a store and buy one? It should be a crime to charge users in San Francisco and New York City what they charge for horrible service. I have called many times to complain about the service and dropped calls. They are able to see all the dropped calls. I just got a credit of $225.00 from AT&T when I called to complain yet again. I suggest that everybody start calling and complaining about their service. Use their AT&T Marks The Spot app to record all dropped voice and data connections. I also found the office of the President of AT&T marketing and sales from their corporate website and sent a stern (yet nice - no swear words) email and they responded very quickly. It's worth it just to have one record that you have called and emailed with service complaints. Let them know that you are considering switching to Verizon when your contract is up. Do not let AT&T just take your money without pushing back at them. I have called and complained about their sh!t service and was told by the customer service rep that they typically have several towers in every 5 square mile radius, and in seattle they only have one per square mile at best.  </p><p>I thought there was a law that enforced truth in advertising, clearly no one is paying attention because their new ad campaign countering Verizon's \"best coverage\" is that AT&T has the fastest 3G network.  I beg to differ, not only do I drop 15 calls a day around the city, I can't always get directions and my phone can't find a signal to connect to for my aps.  AT&T sucks. For wireless service, it begins and ends with the network. Nothing, not even the iPhone, will keep AT&T from nosediving over time unless they spend billions of dollars on their wireless network.</p><p>If wireless truly is their future, then they will put their money where Luke Wilson's considerably large mouth is and upgrade the many questionable areas of their network.</p><p>The lack of 3G presence across the U.S. footprint should be a colossal embarassment to Stephens & Co. At least Ed Whitacre, when presented with the only option available, would make the \"right\" decision and invest in the network.</p><p>The response, trotting out Luke Wilson to say that we have the iPhone and you don't, is troubling at the least and a monumental blunder from a PR and employee morale perspective. I have called and complained about their sh!t service and was told by the customer service rep that they typically have several towers in every 5 square mile radius, and in seattle they only have one per square mile at best.  </p><p>I thought there was a law that enforced truth in advertising, clearly no one is paying attention because their new ad campaign countering Verizon's \"best coverage\" is that AT&T has the fastest 3G network.  I beg to differ, not only do I drop 15 calls a day around the city, I can't always get directions and my phone can't find a signal to connect to for my aps.  AT&T sucks.  As soon as I can use an iPhone with Verizon or T-Mobile, I'M GONE!!!!!</p><p>Hey Apple, Love the technology, but you picked a sh!t partner in AT&T. I know because we tried to buy a refurb iPhone the day after Thanksgiving and could not.  The guy at ATT told me to find a friend or relative and have them buy the phone for me -- it was absurd. I don't think the iPhone is ready for any big city. I live in Philadelphia and purchased two 32GB 3gs phones last week, one as a gift to my wife and the other to upgrade my original 2g iphone (\"to the faster network\"). </p><p>I never had any problems with the 2g iPhone, but since activating both new iphones we have experienced approximately 9 dropped calls out of roughly 12 phone calls. I sell sprint, at&t and verizon phones and use all three daily. I hate using verizon more than anything else, no matter what new phone it is I hate using verizon. It's slow, the phones are all set up so stupid it takes me forever to get used to the new ones. I use it for as little as possible.  Also at&t right now has enormous outages in the south because of the weather. Huge snow storms, flooding, ridiculous winds, that might have a little do with the lack of focus on spotty service, verses complete outages for people who really need there phones while having to drive in the horrible weather or trying to contact friends and family to make sure they're safe. Also, how about the fact that they have so much business and it's growing so fast that they're having trouble keeping up. Also, there 3g is completely different and faster technology than verizon. If I have to do something on the internet at work I always reach for which ever at&t phone we are using at the time. Not to mention verizons horrible customer service, or the fact that the only people who can get service with verizon at all are large cities. My parents live in a smaller community but it's a big tourist spot and it's big enough to have a mall in the south and at&t are the only carrier that gets any kind of coverage there. Also, this entire article is going on what one customer rep said to one more person griping at them telling them there problems. By \"work\", I mean it drops more than 30% of calls. I don't know (or actually care) where the blame lays, but both AT&T and Apple should stop selling these devices immediately. I was required to pay a $30 restocking fee for BOTH phones I returned ($60) even though the CSR said he was aware of the problems and I was not alone.
