I wonder how many people are just waiting out their AT&T contracts to switch to a more reliable carrier. I know the iPhone is cool, but you can get an iPod Touch to use all those apps and get a phone that's on a more reliable network.
I know not everyone has problems with the AT&T network, but it comes up often enough here for me to think it's a problem that will eventually cost them customers. I wouldn't put up with a phone that I couldn't, you know, make phone calls. No matter how cool it is.

Come the end of June, early July, I'm betting the huge original 3G crowd will be moving on unless AT&T stays exclusive and the new iPhone actually offers something new that other phones haven't had for years.

Cant use the network we chose? Theres an app for that.
I had missed making a payment for my iPhone/AT&T account (totally my fault, forgot to click the second \"submit\" when e-banking.) The day after my bill was past due AT&T Collections called.
Unfortunately, they called on my AT&T mobile phone. The connection was so bad that they asked me to call them back on another line.
Think about that for a second, they wanted me to call back on another line that worked so we could discuss my payment for the crapass line they couldn't hear me on.

Everyone I know who has AT&T hates it & can't wait till their contract is up. I'd definitely take T-Mo over AT&T any day. I always had good service with T-Mo. What sucked was the damn sidekick servers being down every other week.
Right there with you. Had TMO for 6 years before AT&T/ iPhone and didn't have ONE problem. More dropped calls, more expensive, and cr*ppier service from AT&T is all I got. Come on Nexus One! TMO I'm coming back! :-)

Would love myself a Nokia n900. Skype over wi-fi is the way to go. Need a free wi-fi hotspot? Nearly every McDonalds.
And if you dont feel like spending over 500 for a Nokia n900, get a Nokia n800 off Ebay for around 150 or less. Trade off is you have no cell phone capability. But skype works great!

I had a dropped call every other call on ATT. After 6 months
of terrible service I unlocked my iPhone, switched to T-Mo
and kicked ATT to the curb. T-Mo has it's own issues but
why in the world would someone wait out a contract with a lousy carrier?
Eat the ETF and get on with life.
AT&T is completely borked the nano-second that iPhone exclusivity is over.
Personally, I'm on Sprint. Yes, my Samsung Instinct is a pile of doodoo compared to the sexiness that is iPhone, but the iPhone is not worth the extra $$$
The iPhone is sexy, but for my money, I'll stick with Sprint. They're a$$-loads cheaper than AT&T for an equivalent service. I know everyone on here hates on Sprint too, but I've never had trouble with them.
As for using Skype, that would be a great way to cut down on the number of minutes you need in your plan every month.

if Verizon and Apple work out a deal once the exclusivity is over, I'm back to Verizon. I can't stand AT&Ts network.. do you know how many times I've gotten shit for missing an important GF/business call? fuck that, it's not worth having to explain why I got the message and called right back but the phone never even recognized a missed call....

The day that we consider Tmobile to be reasonable service when compared to another provider, is the day that annalists predict the sidekick to be the hot smartphone of 2013.
I had much more reliable service and fewer dropped calls on T-mobile than I do now on AT&T, and EDGE data was faster. The only reason I switched to AT&T is because I moved to an area that neither T-mobile, Verizon or Sprint cover.
T-mobile's coverage area may not be as large, but their quality of service and prices are far superior to AT&Ts.
The sidekick IS a joke, however.
