Srsly, though, I'm a fan of Stardock's customer service. They *generally* do right by people.


What I'm not a fan of is Impulse. If you want to know why we can't get decent digital distribution across the board, this is why. There are a dozen different digital distribution platforms, none of which have anything even resembling compatibility with one another.


They're currently all fighting over what game uses what Achievement/Online API, rather than banding together to demand cheaper Digital prices vs. Physical.


They need to give up and recognize that, of the currently existing digital distribution networks, Steam is the clear winner. Stardock, D2D, and the other distribution networks need to band together with Valve, work out a deal for Steamworks, and get back to the business of making DD a *serious* market.

Update:

It has been proven on the Quarter to Three forums that Brad Wardell's response is FALSE and they have been selling a bugged game for the last year. This is not a case of a fan-made bug, but a faulty product being distributed by Stardock. I guess they couldn't be bothered to actually look into the problem (which took just a couple of minutes to uncover) until someone else conclusively proved it.

@Blackadar: In other words you're saying that despite Stardock asking their business partner 3x, the business partner is wrong?

I do think they should be testing the product in this circumstance and not just taking the word of another company. All it would take is some minion to ship the wrong master disk to them and voila, DRM where there shouldn't be any.

I love Stardocks Impulse conceptually. As someone who is constantly rebuilding my laptop and on the road traveling, the ability to download a game to any computer I'm using after I pay for it is quite possibly the greatest feature ever. Unfortunately, the only game I really play that they have is Galatic Civilizations (which is awesome). It works great, it just lacks content

An interesting update to this story can be found at Quarter To Three, a large gaming and media site.

Specifically, two users there also have the Impulse version of this game with the same \"Ring of Elven Greed\" problem that the OP has. Furthermore it was dicussed that this problem has been brought to Stardock's attention since February and ignored. When asked about this problem by other members; Mr. Wardell attacks Consumerist, gives the same verbatim message as above even when the problem is reproduced, and finally leaves because of \"personal attacks.\"

Even if the OP did get a refund (after jumping through a lot of hoops), it looks like there are still problems with this game. Stardock is being really irresponsible for leaving it up for sale while there are still issues surrounding it.
