My own ordeal with HSBC happened about 5 years ago. My mortgage, which had been traded a few times, wound up in their hands.

When I sold the house in question, HSBC charged me a prepayment penalty, which was not part of my original loan paperwork. When I complained, they sent me a copy of a "prepayment rider" with my forged signature on it!

Of course, there's no telling where this fraudulent paperwork came from, but HSBC absolutely refused to even communicate with me about it.

I solved the problem with a snail-mail carpet bomb. I gleaned names/addresses of as many HSBC executives as I could find from the net, and sent them all letters. Oh, and I also copied every conceivable state and federal agency with my story as well.

It was the HSBC "compliance" office that finally refunded my money.
