The RSS feed for Consumerist has changed. Please update your feed reader to http://www.consumerist.com/index.xml
No new posts will appear after this one on the old RSS feed. Thank you!

UPDATE: For those of you who are still getting redirected to the old feed, we are working on it.

Yes, the new URL seems to work within a browser, but something is seriously messed up with my.yahoo.com. I think Yahoo is caching the old RSS URL no matter what RSS URL you use. This seems to be a problem with Yahoo, but it's a big problem for Consumerist since a TON of people use my.yahoo.com.

I'll lodge a complaint with Yahoo, but a fix could be weeks away.

5 days later and no joy. Consumerist is my favorite RSS and I'm suffering withdrawal. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

I am trying to add consumerist to my "myyahoo.com". That is where it was before the change. Now it no longer offers that option. Any ideas?

My Google Reader shows [www.consumerist.com] as a feed address although I didn't change anything. What was the old address? It seems like Google just caught up with this change, somehow.

Do a permanent redirect of the old feed to the new. News reads (should) then use the new feed.

@cupcake_ninja: that's a dirty workaround. i'd rather see google reader properly allow changing of urls. :)

hmm, i just checked google reader and i see today's feeds, so i guess it's fine not to have www.

i wonder if consumerist configured old url to answer with 301 redirect, would google reader notice it and update url?

I know, it IS pretty shameless, ain't it?
I wrote it (well, the free babysitting tip first) when there were only a few comments, then inspiration hit, and by the time I finished, it was too late to appear on the first page. Sigh. One of my best works, I think.
I'm especially proud of the, "Children often lack worldly experience, and many trust their parents and close relatives" line.

@Trai_Dep: i can only speak from personal experience, but i rarely click thru past page 1. i'm sure i'm not alone - even the site reduces the importance of these comments by shrinking them.

i did miss your excellent idea for saving on summer camp the first time around, but i clicked thru this time (which proves that shameless self-plugging is still an effective marketing tool). funny stuff.

@Trai_Dep: i tried some for a while but relying on outside services to notify me of things continuously fails. even with tweaking email settings and adding senders to safe lists...
livejournal no longers notifies me of anything, okcupid fails... bunedoggle notifier for gawker site comments is about 50% and hours behind.
i get flickr updates but usually a week late, regardless of my settings ... the only thing that sends me 'updates' is facebook and i don't have a facebook account so i don't know what those emails are, phishing i assume.
i am perfectly happy with my really long bookmark list at this point.

@catastrophegirl: RSS feeds are great for sites that don't often update but you're interested in. For example, the blog for Team Fortress 2 is breathtakingly brilliant and funny, but wildly inconsistent. Rather than checking every day and shedding sour tears of disappointment, I RSS it then every so Blue Moon am notified by a (1) or even more rarely a (2) or (3) in my Bookmarks menus.
If it weren't for RSS, I'd have thrown in the towel and missed quite a few hearty chuckles.
So: Save a Chuckle from Oblivion - Use RSS!

@mac-phisto: I've been wondering what drop-off there is btn being on the first page versus latter ones as far as having my comments read. I think it's pretty significant. It seems the really dynamic threads always happen on the first page.
(bitter because my Frame Your Adorable Snowflake for a Crime S/He Didn't Commit To Save on Summer Camp Expenses comment posted yesterday didn't take off (although, Phil was very kind with his comment - Thanks, Phil!))

you know what i really miss? does anyone remember the consumerist start page that had just picture links? instead of picture/title/summary, it just had a page with the most recent 50 or so stories linked by a 100x50px story photo.

i used to love that page. it was awesome. & then it disappeared. *sniff*

@pecan 3.14159265: No, due to the pigeon/owl rivalry which started in the 16th centuary. Since pigeons don't have talons or night vision, the owls have an unfair advantage, and are only allowed in pigeon airspace with armed pigeon escorts.

@Blue387: Yes, they are getting rid of it. The new system will revolve around giving star commenters homing pigeons, which we will mail to non-starred commenters. When a non-starred has a witty comment, they write it on a piece of paper and attach it to the leg of a pigeon, and release it to return to it's star commenter. When we receive it, we judge it's quality, and if it meets our standards, we post it like it's our own. Of course, ConsumeristRoz's coup is always open, so you may send pigeons to her of course, or send up smoke signals every morning from the west as the sun arises to vanquish it's enemy, the moon on alternating weekdays.

Don't delete the old one, just rename it, add the new one, and voila. You get to keep your history, starred item and still get the new feeds.
