Demonic, animated toys, mutated animals, and fat men dressed all in red who invade your house, eat your food and know if you've been naughty or nice. The halloween merchandise is already half gone at some stores here so I guess people really are spending more or the costume aisles wouldn't be more than half empty already. If I see things on sale here and there, I will pick up small gifts and hide them away in the closet, and keep a list of what I've gotten so I don't forget. I start around this time of year.</p><p>If you've got a lot of relatives and nieces and nephews, this is a great way to stay ahead of schedule and spend slowly and carefully, and avoid putting it on a credit card. I get paid twice a month, and work in an office building next to the mall. I will walk through the mall on payday anyway, to hit the ATM there and get lunch at a restaurant next door. While there I will get a couple of things on sale. If I don't see a great bargain I don't buy it because I have plenty of time.</p><p>I wonder if these displays are not meant to get people to purchase the Christmas decorations, but to get them in the frame of mind that it's coming in a few months so get spending. I think it is silly what the stores are doing, but it might be their motivation. Not really but it might be a great marketing tool to have something called \"Holiday Store.\"  One aisle for Christmas, one for Halloween, one for Mother's Day and so on.  The aisles would be continually stocked with appropriate merchandise 365 days a year.
