We're sad to say that such responsiveness and concern do not extend north to Baltimore's Camden Yards, where we suffered our own tale of hot dog woe this past weekend.

We went up to Baltimore to watch our Red Sox play the Orioles. We prefer Camden Yards to the overpriced Nationals Stadium in DC, and we usually go up to Baltimore a couple times each season. On Friday and Saturday we purchased Super Dogs, a gigantic and delicious hot dog that could could only be better if the concession stand provided onions. As far as ballpark hot dogs go, these were tops.

When we went to Sunday's game, we purchased a Super Dog. The foil wrapper was kind of crumbled, but we thought nothing of it until we opened it up to dress it. It was a very sad hot dog. Look at this thing:

Whereas the previous days' Super Dogs were moist and plump, this was withered and pathetic, like one of those forgotten franks rotating alone at a 7-Eleven. We'd say there was a pretty good chance that this was a hot dog from the previous day that had sat around somewhere overnight. We tried to bring it back to life with lots of ketchup and mustard, but our efforts were in vain.

We foolishly took a bite of the dog, hoping that the inside was somehow still good. It wasn't.

Fortunately, a sign near our seats informed us that if we needed assistance, we could text "Orioles Issue Location" to a number and someone from the Orioles would respond. So we did:

Portending the failure that was ahead, it took eight minutes for the Orioles's bot to even get back to us:

We wrapped the dog up and stuck it under our seat, waiting for help to arrive. No one came. After a few hours, we reminded them that we were still waiting for assistance:

But no one ever responded, and we watched the Sox sweep the O's on an empty stomach. We probably should have just returned it, but we didn't want to lose the proof in case someone from the Orioles actually showed up with a substitute dog. Like some other parks, Camden Yards lets fans take outside food and drink into the stadium. We like ballpark hot dogs, but we'll be bringing our own snacks from now on.

So here's what I do at Coors Field, where dogs are 4 or 5 bucks. Bring buns and pre-nuked dogs into the stadium (you're allowed.) When you want to eat, take your dogs to a concessionaire that does not sell hot dogs, and ask if you can zap your cold hot dog for 30 secs in their microwave. It helps if you buy an overpriced soda.

Those fan hotlines are usually reserved for reporting inproper conduct around your section, not because you were too lazy to walk back to the concession stand. I am sure they would have been more than willing to replace your hot dog had you made an actual effort to receive a replacement.

Me: Well, you see, I had to go to Orioles Park to find a hot dog in section 77.
Boss: A hot dog!?
Me: Yeah, I saw a picture of it online... sure looked tasty!
Boss: Well... was it?
Me: Oh yeah! Well, well worth the trip.
Boss: Hrm... do you know where I can get a dog around here? I'm starved?

For some things in life, face to face interaction is still the easiest way to get resolution. Walking back up to the vendor, showing the dog, and politely asking for a replacement takes some effort, but it's a lot better than sitting hungry.

On the off chance that someone actually came with a replacement dog after you resorted to getting a new one yourself, odds are they'd just give it to you.

Absolutely, but aside from the folly of going to Camden Yards and getting a hot dog instead of Boog's bbq, it strikes me as strange that someone would use the assistance text message for a bad hot dog. You know that message is going to the back of the queue. No one has ever gone to red alert over a bad wiener. Only way that was getting responded to was going back to the concession. Comparing it to the other story, where the resolution was after the game, is pretty unfair.

If the hot dog was purchased from concessions, why not just take it back there instead of waiting for someone to come by?

Unless there's an expectation that the person responding to the text would be any higher-up than roving concessionaires, why would one need "proof" beyond the photo already taken? Even if someone did come by, they'd replace your doggo just like a concession stand would.

Depending on the section you're in, wouldn't it seem that hotdog emergencies are probably low on the priority list? Given that concession stands could take care of it..?

I feel like there's something I'm missing.
