@summerbee: RipOffReport.com has a service, the \"Corporate Advocacy Program,\" whereby companies pay some amount of money, claim that they've changed their evil ways, and RipOffReport.com sings nothing but praises about them. They don't delete negative comments, but they hide them under the bullshit you see right there.

These are the Kinds of Reports we should see here on The Consumerist. They most likely Dropped you from the case because you stood your ground, and knew you would defend yourself in court, and had no way to win. Congrats Consumerist!
It's kind of a shame recently. CU has much bigger pockets than the poor blogger and ex-employee. Cash4Gold probably realizes they have a loser lawsuit and that CU's lawyers would wipe the floor with these clowns.

@sirwired: C4G probably thought Consumerist was just some dinky blog that they could push around and intimidate with the threat of a lawsuit. Once they realized Consumerist was part of Consumers Union, that's when they dropped them from the law suit.
@sirwired: That's the way I see it too. This lawsuit is going to end badly, as they can just keep dragging it out and incurring legal fees.

I've been following the cash4gold story and at the same time I was trying to find an alternative. I had a few pounds of silver and some gold solder that I've been sitting on for over a decade and when silver started heading north of $16 for the second time, I finally pulled the trigger. It came down to Midwest Refineries and Monsterslayer, both of which had a lot of positive reports all over the various forums. I went with Midwest. I mailed off a USPS priority insured package last week and I received a $1200 check in the mail today. Painless. Why would anyone use cash4gold? You guys should write up a piece on cash4gold alternatives. Not everyone wants to drive over to the pawn shop or get credit at a jewelry store.

@whysogreedy: I was about to suggest Midwest to you when I first started reading your comment. In my brief research of gold buyers, they seemed one of the most legit.
@Chris Walters: Midwest is the real cash4gold. They deliver on the promise of those cash4gold commercials. I spent a fair bit of time poring over crafting and jewelry making forums and Midwest kept popping up as the go to company.
You're supposed to specify payment and instructions. I just took a chance and asked for a check for whatever they assayed. I got back a pretty detailed breakdown of materials, weight, purity and how they arrived at the settlement along with that meaty check. All told it took less than a week, including USPS back and forth. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

The way I see it is that good (decent/moral/etc) companies will address complaints, bad companies sue in the hopes that the complainers will turn tail and run. It's quite sad and shows a companies true colors.
I've been in the \"hot seat\" a couple of times and I stood my ground, regardless of legal threats. I am still batting 1,000.
Is there anything that we can do for the people who are still being sued by them? Cash4Gold must surely know that they aren't getting any good publicity from this.
Finally Cash4Gold realized that under freedom of the press it was silly to name Consumerist.com as a defendant.

When it came to the Cash4Gold articles I just skipped over them thinking they were just about consumers complaining about the company.
After actually reading everything about it I am happy I read the consumerist. That was very good reporting and I will definitely keep checking back for updates.
