Everyone should read Vance Packard's "The Hidden Persuaders" at some time. Advertising is intended to make you reach into your wallet or to select a particular company when you reach into your wallet. In other words, if they took all the bullshit in advertising, there would be no need for chemical fertilizers. Once you realize that no amount of cosmetics is going to make your receptionist look like Cindy Crawford, the rest just follows along.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I'd rather prefer my bank didn't spend all that much money on advertising. Sure, some ads may be necessary, but these expensive, Hollywood-type mini-movies haven't doen much to A) bolster our confidence and B) protect banks from bankruptcy or acquisition.

Customers and investors need to demand more fiduciary conservatism and responsibility from their banks.

Interesting video, but advertising is not about trust, per se, but emotional manipulation. How many of be bikini-clad beauties in beer commercials play to your sense of trust? Big summer blockbuster trailers? Not so much...

Perhaps financial advertising should be about trust...
