I appreciate that United feels it is learning from the episode, but as yet there has been no statements from your organization that United was RESPONSIBLE for the actions of its agent...an agent conducts business on behalf of its contracting organization. The only comments seem to be that United is sorry, or very sorry...what is it sorry for? Simply routing the issue for "Special Situations" still implies that United is instantly reluctant to recognize a clear failure on the part of some branch of its subcontractors...unfortunate for United, but your responsibility none the less.

Speaking for myself, a weekly airline traveller across the country, I am still awaiting a clear acknowledgement that it is responsible for the actions of its subordinate organizations and while making it right for United's customer, will pursue damages from the agent rather than abide by a "flawed United Airlines Policy". Other than training, explain what policy changed since United has been embrassed?

We need comfort airlines are truly learning and not just using us as training examples.

These videos struck a chord with us at United and it rocked my world...Dave is very creative and talented, for sure.

I have since worked with him directly to fix, and I now consider him my BFF :)

The second video is suggesting we do something that we've already done -- and that is to provide our agents with a better way to escalate and respond to special situations. While his anecdotal experience is unfortunate, the fact is that 99.95 percent of our customers' bags are delivered on-time and without incident, including instruments that belong to many Grammy award-winning musicians (would love to say who, but we've signed confidentiality agreements with them).

In our business, how we conduct ourselves is important, and me and my colleagues understand that treating each other and our customers in a courteous and respectful manner is a vital part of running a good airline.

I see nothing wrong with this.

1. The guy has talent, much more than me, and I would assume more than you, too. If this was about a guy who put up a lame youtube video whining (like 8 million other videos on youtube), it would not have millions of hits. People are watching the video because the music is quality, and the videos are hilarious.

2. So he's profiting from this. Why is that a bad thing? Not only is he getting to screw over a company that did him wrong, he also manages to help his career in the process. What's wrong with that? Again, the bottom line is he is getting the attention because there is quality music and presentation beghind this. Without that, this wouldn't have gone anywhere. I've been exposed to his music now, and found it pretty good, and as a result, I would probably buy a few concert tickets if he/they ever swung around this way.

3. By not accepting their hush money offered only to shut him up, he doesn't have to sign an agreement to, well, shut up. Sounds like he's made more money and advanced his band's career more this way than United is willing to pay them. Why is this a bad thing?

Goes to show how addictive a little celebrity can be. But the bottom line hasn't changed. The guitar song had no lasting effect on United Airline's behavior or reputation, despite the incessant hyping by social media pundits. [blog.vanno.com]

There is a part of the lyric in the chorus I can't seem to understand. "By a _____ United Airlines Policy" Sounds like they are singing "fall" but that makes no sense. What is it?

@DaveDidNotPay: I sincerely doubt that he would accept the offer. After the first video, United offered to pay for the guitar, Dave refused and requested that they donate the money to charity.

United apparently donated $3000 to charity (but in doing so, probably could not have Dave sign an agreement to remove the video, or to not publish any additional videos) [www.sfgate.com]

The net result is Dave is able to stick it to United...he was able to get them to donate $3000, he can keep his video online, and still post additional videos to add further negative publicity to United, ad as well, assist him i his own self promotion.

Yeah and one wehn he was eating breakfast and brushing his teeth in the morning, that would be sweeeet.

Dude, this isn't even a sequel, its all part of what he originally promised, he said he'd make 3 songs. So if he makes the 3 songs then makes another that would be the sequel. Probably should have read the original article.

All companies can make mistakes but only some companies actually try to remedy those mistakes. United missed its chance to remedy this mistake with a few thousand dollars quite a long time ago.

If they offered Dave free air fare for life, a true gesture of sympathy on their part, I would actually have a bit of respect for a company which I currently have none for.

I would expect Dave to turn them down but the gesture alone would be a very humbling act IMO.

All of this started over a single broken guitar but... how many guitars were destroyed to make this video? Eh? Eh?! Didn't think of that did you?! Who's the guitar-breaker now, Mr. Carroll?!

United bumped a friend of mine out of her business class seat into coach a couple of years ago, so I was already not keen on them.

So after watching #1, when I went to book our summer vacation flights and United was the only airline that covered the entire trip... I split the $1500 between Alaska and Air Canada. And every time I passed a United check-in, I wished I had a guitar to strum Dave's tune on.
