I use a VISA for all of my purchases, and recently made $80 worth of repairs to an out-of-factory-warranty Roomba at no cost to me.</p><br /><p>The process is simple: Order replacement parts or take your defective item in for repair, pay out of pocket. Contact VISA to obtain a claim form. Fill out the form, and attach a copy of the original sales receipt, warranty, and a copy of the reciept for repairs. Fax or mail this information to VISA.</p><br /><p>All told it was maybe one week from the time they received my claim, to the time I had a reimbursment check in my mailbox. They were friendly throughout the entire process, and I was not required to jump through and additional hoops.</p><br /><p>I can only speak for VISA, since I'm not sure of Mastercard's (or any other credit card company) policy. But VISA will double the warranty on anything other than cars and water heaters to a maximum of 3 years. Meaning it will extend a 6 month warranty to 1 year, a 1 year warranty to 2 years, and a 2 year warranty to the maximum 3 years. All at no cost.</p><br /><p>Sorry for rambling, I just think this is an under-reported benefit of using credit cards. I also feel it to be one that is being under-utilized by cardmembers.
