<p>Another big recall: <em>four million</em> <a href="http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09261.html">Aqua-Leisure Baby Floats</a>. The leg straps can break, and the baby fall into the water.</p>

<p>Basic IKEA crib that turns into a toddler bed = $169 plus $25 mattress.  Nothing fancy, but it works.</p>]]>

<p>For example. My sister (who is now 23) stuck a penny in an electrical socket. Shocked the hell out of her. My dad looked at her and said, "Hurts didn't it? Bet ya won't do that again." Needless to say, she never did, and the rest of us we're dumb enough to follow in her footsteps.</p></p>]]>

<p>I don't understand the hate for child safety products anyways. Most of these products come from a genuine need. Maybe not a need to protect from death but from bumps, bruises, and broken bones. Babies and toddlers have no understanding of danger; they have an instinctive love of novelty. They will drink floor cleaner and lick electrical outlets because it is new and different, not like playing with the same old safe toys.</p>]]>

<p>That's a key detail left out of the summary.  But yeah, replace 'breaking bolts' with 'alcohol' and you've just described all snowmobiles.</p></p>]]>

<p>According to the linked PDF on that page, due to the fact that a total of 22 kids died between 1985-1999 from drawstrings on their clothes, the CPSC thinks they're deadly. I'm sure 3x as many kids died in that period from getting tangled in their own shirts but they aren't mandating that kids go topless. What the HELL?</p>
