@menty666: They're novelty versions or sizes that they don't sell in mass quantities to big box stores. I'd also guess that people who still have money for novelty candy aren't spending it on faux chocolate.

Hershey's chocolate's aren't much good anyway, another reason people aren't buying....

If they sold the 5 pound hershey bar with almonds, I would so be all over that.
Say what you will haters, but I enjoy Hershey's chocolate over Nestle.

Trader Joes has some good generic, though awesome, chocolate. And Gherardelli is the damn-near best mass-produced chocolate that I've found.

I always figured chocolate as more of an impulse buy vs. an online purchase. And doesn't it get expensive to mail, especially when it needs to be protected against hot or really freezing cold weather?
Hershey's products always made me feel sick after eating them, could never figure out why, but haven't touched the stuff for decades. Ingredient list always looked OK. Anyone else notice this?

@Shoelace: Kit-kats seem to taste different/worse now than how they tasted a few years ago. I bought one the other day after having not bought chocolate in forever and did not enjoy it.
On the other hand the Crunch bar I got from the same store was freaking GRAY so it could just be crappy supply at that location.

@Shoelace: Hershey's makes you feel sick because their chocolates taste as if you threw up a little in your mouth after eating chocolate. I'm told that Hershey's has cultured (soured) milk in the mix. The internets are full of people who dislike Hershey's sour taste.

@ChuckECheese: to me, Hershey's feels waxy and fatty... i'd prefer to get a (sightly more expensive) bar if i'm eating it plain.
@Shoelace: Its because they have milk butter solids (I forget what the technical ingerdient name is). I'm intolerant to most milk fats, and Hersheys make me ill.

Pretty soon that company will consist only of Mexican factories, the Milton Hershey school, and wax.

I happen to be friends with a former department head of the Hershey Gifts division who later started his own company which was the main supplier for Hershey Gifts. The company went bankrupt earlier this year, disrupting supplies at both Hershey retail locations and their gift catalog. I suspect it may have something to do with this announcement, but really have no idea.
Part of the problem for them is that in the summer months, they have to be very careful about how/where they send their stuff, because if UPS leaves it on the porch somewhere and its not picked up till late afternoon, it could be completely melted.

It drives me nuts that Mr. Pi loves Hershey's chocolate bars. It tastes like wax to me - crunchy, crumbly chocolate-flavored wax. Ugh.
Though to be honest, I've also had really bad Belgian chocolate so I don't think it's a matter of one US company making bad chocolate - I think it's just that some companies make bad chocolate. Who would have thought that in Belgium there would be bad chocolate? It exists though. I've had it.
I dont know after Easter they are off my list too. The chocolate was horrible. I dont know what they were thinking when they changed the recipe but when a 6 year old boy goes ew this tastes yuuuucky daddy somethings wrong. He tore up the german chocolate candies though and I couldnt keep toberone death chocolate in the house.

I always liked Hersheys but stopped eating it when they closed the local factory and moved it to Mexico.
Ran to the store to grab a Hershey to see what everyone's talking about. Wow, how can you even describe it as sour if it has no taste? I can buff my car with a Hershey's bar.
Now if only the rest of the company can shut down so we can get some real Kit Kats.
