@cortana: Tell me about it. DISH screwed me out of almost a grand and I thought I was going to have an easy out instead of going to court. I wonder why Ohio (and the other states for that matter) were left off of the list?

My experience with Dishnetwork is that you cannot believe half of what their front line support tells you and none of that 3rd party retailers say.
Too bad North Carolina is not part of the states receiving the settlement. I was a Dish Network customer 2 years ago when I got screwed over. When their 3rd party installer messed up my order, they refused to replace the equipment unless I paid for it. This meant my \"free\" satellite dish turned into a $150 charge to get international channels when it was supposed to be included with my original order. On top of that, they continued to call me after I cancelled and asked to be removed from their calling list. At least they are getting their due with this and the TiVo case.
I remember several years ago when bundling became the big thing, and I was using AT&T for telephone service. An AT&T customer service rep told me if I paid AT&T $20 that they would send a tech to my house to hook up Dish Network. It sounded too good to be true, so I said, \"You mean the $20 covers hookup, equipment, and everything involved in setting the service up?\"
\"Yes, everything!\" said the AT&T cus. serv. rep over the phone.
I was suspicious because I knew how much it cost, but I told AT&T to sign me up. A week later when the Dish Network tech arrived, he wanted another $65 on the spot, right then I called AT&T back; turns out the first cus. serv. rep was full of baloney, the $20 I paid was ONLY for the privilege of bundling and none of it applied to Dish Network, so I told the tech to go back where he came from and ask for my $20 back, which was eventually credited back to me. This happened in Oregon. Both companies can go kick rocks.

I made the mistake of signing up for a 2 year contract with DISH. I'm not even a year into it. I signed up because at the time, they had the best prices. Well, 3 months into my contract, they raise the prices. There's a clause in the contract that states they can pretty much raise the prices to anything they want, and I'm still liable to pay. Garbage. I need to find something legitimate to complain about so I can get in on some of this money.
I wish this went past the 2 previous years. I had one installer install the dish on 4 different places on and around my house. At one point, the owner of the 3rd party installer came over to inspect the work and fired the guy then and there. Unfortunately, the owner, when he arrived was so drunk that someone had to drive him to my house! Then when the switch went bad after less than a year, they said it was covered under warranty, but that there'd be a $100 service charge to come out and replace it.

Damn... dish has been very good to me, but I was hoping for an easy paycheck. I am rather disatisfied with the way they installed my dish on my new house. I'm gonna have to get up there with a ladder and rerun the cables.

Good to know. Now I can put in a claim for all those telemarketing calls, and that B.S. Refurbed VIP622 they gave me which failed in under 12 hours of installation. The kicker here is they gave it to me as new.
I have been putting off my complaint for some time because I am not a complainer. But recent news reports have changed my mind. $46 million is a lot nation wide for one company such as Dish Network to be ripping hard working people off. My complaint is as most peoples, your given a price, then a few months later it goes up. The bundling price sucks, it's not worth it. Also when your watching something the service will go out, hence no picture. I remember the day when watching tv cost you nothing. Now you pay to see nothing. Sorry for the complaint, but it's been stuck in my gut to long.

Er, Comcast does the same thing, just more frequently. I can't think of any non-OTA TV provider who DOESN'T raise their rates.
I have been a customer of Dish Network for several years. I am paying now over $100/month for the services I receive, which includes $25/mo for TV Japan for my girlfriend, who is Japanese.
A little over two weeks ago, I called to tell them I wanted to transfer our account to a new address. The deal is, you pack up your receiver equipment and bring it to the new address, they send the technician out, he hooks it all up and makes sure it is working. The technician came out, hooked everything up, and all was good -- until I got the new bill and they added a \"Dish Antenna Kit\" charge of $199.95 for a new dish. Now, the \"old\" dish (it's less than a year old), is still on the roof of the old address, and I have found out that I (or the new tenants) are expected to remove it and DISPOSE of it, even though it is in perfectly fine condition and is, again, less than a year old. AND I am expected to pay and additional $100+ (after some credits were applied), to put a new one on the roof of the new address.
I called their \"customer service\" and was repeatedly lied to that it had been \"disclosed\" to me about the additional charges for an unneeded new dish, and that they would not remove the charge. And if I cancel the service, the new version of which is less than two weeks old, I will still be charged for the new dish I wasn't told I would be charged for. Plus, obviously, if I refuse to pay the charge, they will take it to collections, there is no doubt about that.
So, to summarize, they insist that I should pay this outrageous charge for a new dish, but they don't care what happens to the old (less than one year \"old\", perfectly fine dish). In fact, either I, or the new tenants are supposed to be responsible for removing/disposing of their property, which apparently has zero value to them, but they just GOTTA get that extra $100+ outta me for the new one...
This theft from me by Dish Network, by the way, is occurring in California.
How is the settlement in 46 states, when there are only 3 excluded states? Please let it be that the Cubans took Florida.
