Although they point out that not every other Camaro that rolls off the line is a bucket of fail—this isn't the Xbox 360, after all—there do seem to be enough first year production issues that you should inspect the vehicle very carefully before leaving the dealership.

Here's their list:

***IMPORTANT NOTE*** The following list is compiled from various individuals who are mostly experiencing isolated incidents. These are not issues every individual is having with their Camaro. Again, these are ISOLATED incidents that have mostly occurred to single individuals. By the accounts of owners on this site, most Camaros that have been delivered have been without problems. Please keep in mind that every first year production vehicle has more issues than later production years. This list is meant to serve as a comprehensive (perhaps overly) checklist of things to check for upon delivery, and should not be interpreted as widespread quality-control issues with the 2010 Camaro.

Also note: This list is mainly a checklist for things wrong that a dealer can immediately fix. A broken transmission or bad drive-shaft from dropping the hammer on this beast is something that they won't know until it actually happens. Thank you for submitting all your issues.

001. Loose Bolts that hold fluid back causing leaks (ex: on oil pan, tranny fluid)
002. Trunk Locking mechanism (issues with opening w/o adding down pressure to top of trunk first and/or emergency release appears to be loose keeping the trunk from locking properly)
003. Loose plastic paneling around the 4-gauges cluster, launch control, cigarette power plug as well as Left and Right A-Pillars Trim Loose, sill trim loose, and dash pannel where doors and dash meet popping open.
004. Loose Spoiler/installed correctly (Re-torque Spoiler bolts)
005. Wiper transmission cable overheating from engine causing a short circuit.
006. Matching Headlight Halos strength. (one defective being dimmer then the other).
007. Mismatched paint on parts of the vehicle (including gas door). As well as paint runs or clear coat runs. Paint Chips.
008. Loose Rocker Panel "Chevrolet" causing it to peel off.
009. Minor Problem With Window Indexing.
010. Ambient Lighting on doors defective.
011. Bad radiator (leaks).
012. Hood release/latch issues (won't unhook to open the hood).
013. Gap at base of ONStar Antenna.
014. Battery cable routing near the starter has been done.
015. Digital Speedometer is off. Also keeps going on and off.
016. Bottom pulley shakes and needs replacement per dealer.
017. Broken tranny.
018. Ignition Mechanism Issue with key getting stuck in car.
019. Non RS taillights installed on RS equipped cars (all 4 of them).
020. Rocker Panel aligned with body and clipped in correctly.
021. Bumper rubs with body
022. Trunk opens with switch and remote
023. Correct speedo/tach gauge ring color
023. Ambient lighting on drivers door as bright as passenger door
024. Doors gaps /alignment
025. Dirt/bubbles in rally stripes
026. Door panel not scratched from seat belt.
027. Shift knobs wearing out extremely fast could be faulty material
028. AC system stops blowing cold air in random durations, most likely blockage in AC drainage and/or AC draining into the car instead of beneath it
029. Clunking noise in changing gears
030. Trunk opens with remote and laser cut key
031. USB drive and aux port works
032. Squeaky Breaks
033. GFX installed correctly
034. Rims and tires in good condition (coming off carrier in bad condition/damaged)
035. Check for damage in the interior, basic procedure
036. Check the locking mechanism of both doors
037. Scraping sound for a second when backing up
038. SS emblem on trunk is loose
039. Loose interior windshield trim loose
040. The front GFX lip is not coming loose at the double sided tape
041. The front passenger brake rotors are not wearing with a dark colored groove
042. Hood latch handle on inside of cab doesn't retract properly (just hangs)
043. Scratches in seats
044. Oil cooler leaking
045. Once in every 10-15 times I unlock the car, the drivers side door is still locked, while
the locking knob on the door is in the "up" position
046. Faulty as gauge (improper readings)
047. Missing paint around the headlights
048. Bleed screw on clutch slave cylinder loose
049. Stickers on rockers peelin
050. Scratches on window pillars
051. Misaligned body & door panels as well as hood not centered properly (more to one side then the other)
052. Alignment of doors to dash interior the door interior seems to sag below the dash interior
053. Drivers side roof light( the one with the toggle switch) only works when its toggled over to the passenger side
054. Door sill decals peeling up
055. Paint swirls in driver/passenger door
056. Drive-shaft connection to the differential cracking when dropping the clutch
057. Tach Needle Sticking
058. Wiper motor wiring comes through bottom of the cowling-well in front of the driver. (The fix (decided upon between the dealer and myself) was to re-insulate the wires, cover the harness with a hard, slick plastic covering, drill a small hole in the bottom of the cowling-well (fill the hole with silicone) and use a cable tie down like the rest of the wiper harness uses to secure the harness to the floor of the cowling (the grommet will collapse downward with little force), far away from harm from the wiper arms.)
059. engine makes continuous clicking noise, starting roughly 5 seconds after engine starts
060. Door Sill plates wrinkled on outside edges (both sides)
061. Trunk gasket at bottom of rear window coming off
062. Uneven Dash (driver's side dash is lower then passenger's side)
063. Passenger/Driver's side Fender alignment off. (wheel cover well had to come off, then loosen fender bolt, and it pops right in place)
064. Key won't stay in folded position
065. Faulty Tail lights.
066. Weather stripping at back of rear windows loose (I can literally grab and peel it back).
067. Missing or peeling paint between trunk lid and spoiler (right rear section)-could possibly spread over time down the trunk lid.
068. Driver's seat makes clicking noises when set all the way back.

@vvvinny: You need to learn to do math. The industry standard is IPTV (issues per thousand vehicles) So its 68 divided by 25 equals issues per thousand.
2.72 issues per thousand cars is each issue equalled a single time occurance for all cars which we know it isn't. Lets say theyve built 12500 then it would be 5.44 per thousand. The industry leading standard is around 100 per thousand.

@stevejust: Just go to any automotive forum and you'll see plenty of people having different issues for their new cars. My wife's new (at the time) corolla had issues with the glove box falling to the floor that took a few trips to get fixed. My 2009 Sienna has a strange and intermittent issue where all the interior lights will flicker while I'm driving. Toyota can't duplicate it and it's very random but it happens. Maybe I should add those to a "Toyota Checklist."

@Techguy1138: I thought we already covered this. I love the Chevy V8 like I said in my first post. But until Detroit can get their head out of their asses, I will buy something else. I want to supporting US heavy manufacturing. So if I buy an American built car, it will be a Honda made in the South by workers that can hold a tighter tolerance than Detroit and do it without bankrupting their company. You know how people always make fun of Southerns, well look where all the high end work is going. This must piss Michigan off.

@JoeDirt: Look Germany is self is a much more socialized country than the US. All of the companies there benefit from favorable government practices, including BMW.

Countries are always mixtures of ideals. So yes parts of America policy is socialist. I really, really LIKE public police departments and public fire departments, roads and water. Are you going to argue that medicine and food were better in the US before the FDA was made?

Germany is more socialist than the US, Japan uses the government to prop up car companies, Korea uses it's government to press daewoo into America.

There are other good reasons for the government support of US heavy manufacturing.

I will pay you $500 if you can create a list like this for a 2010 Honda Civic, CRV, Accord or Toyota Camry, Corolla or 4Runner. List must come with photos & dealer responses to the alleged problems.

And yes, you could say, well this doesn't include photos or dealer comments. But I had a Camaro in high school that first had a new paint job under warranty because it chipped all over, and then with 27,000 miles had the alternator crap out. I sold it and haven't bought another American car since. And because I'm inclined to believe this list is anecdotal of true problems, never will again.

When you look at what some of these imperfections are, and consider the source (a board with hundreds of fanatic enthusiasts) this is neither a surprising nor a concerning list because, as stated in the copy before the list, these aren't high-frequency defects nor are they defects found on any one car. It's a new model from a troubled company and it's selling very well. I don't think there's that much of a consumer story here, except that you should check out ANY car you buy in detail, it will save you money, frustration and inconvenience in the long run.

You should checklist any new car - not just a specialty car- prior to signing the final documents. This gets the problems fixed FAST and NOW!!! versus you having to schedule an appointment to shlep back to the dealer and wait around for something to get fixed.

My ex-wife and I bought an AWD Dodge Durango SLT in late October 2001- after Sept.11 but before all of the 0% loan nonsense (who actually ever qualified?) started. The vehicle had sat for about 6 months on the dealer lot and the dealer was bailing on the price- msrp of the base stripper model for the maxed out model. In my delivery inspection, I noticed blemishes in the hood paint and a couple of other items. Biggest was that we had a dealer installed tow package and the wiring harness was not zip tied down at all. Infact, the wires were loose in the engine bay and would have fallen down into the left wheel well between the frame and wheelwell splash rubber potentially rubbing on the tire. When I pointed this (and the unused zip ties left in the wiper area) the sales guy about had a cow. And we doubled his angst when we said that we would be back in TWO days to pick up the fixed vehicle because we had to go out of town for a day. That wiring was fixed, the paint blemishes were removed, and it had a full tank of gas waiting when we came to pick it up...

You just cant pull things out of the air a say there true. Some of their employees are union and some are not. They are not bullied into joining a union but they are bullied from management to personally buy a BMW. Their non-gov, non-union benefits are better than most companies including a long vacation. Their pay is high because their product is superior and not because some the company was forced to pay high wages. This is how capitalism works. If BMW was a socialist company like GM, I would not buy from them either. If BMW had the same social issues as Detroit, I would buy another Infinity. And yes, buying a foreign car at this point, is less socialist that buying Detroit. That seams to be the part your confused with.

@JoeDirt: I am reiterating my previous comment, which is that Germany is MORE socialist in a general sense than the US, yet your stated reason that you "have to go with the M3" was that "...they want all of America to pay for their socialist screw ups...." I'm not losing anything, you're trying to ignore half of your post just to be argumentative. I've no doubt the M3 is a better car, and if you'd just said you were buying an M3 because it's a better car than because you want to strike a blow against socialism there'd be no argument in the first place.

-yes. The first off means inaccurate, the second means turns on and off. There is no other way to interpret the sentence.
032. Squeaky Breaks So what exactly does little Squeaky keep breaking? Maybe the car's brakes?
-Yes, the cars brakes. They sound the same, say it out loud.
039. Loose interior windshield trim loose So does doubly-loose mean it's really bad?

I hope this has been helpful in understanding message board posts that may or may not have been thoroughly proof read.

Any first-run model is going to have some production problems, but this Camaro list, even with the extraneous items and duplicates removed, is incredible. Forget bailouts and artificial tax-and-credit "stimulus" programs. If particular makes/models can't stand on the merits of their design and build quality, people aren't going to buy them. Better to get the downsizing/consolidation of this industry (GM, in particular) over with now than later.

The transmission on my first Honda (brand new 2000 coupe) blew up after 1200 miles. It wasnt a new design (2 yrs old at the time), Honda knew what the issue was but never really resolved it. Mysteriously the NEXT generation Accord had almost no transmission problems....they basically just swept the issue under the carpet.

I lean towards Nissan/Infiniti now. Dont like Toyota but havent tried a Lexus yet.

Kind of sad really, I have always loved Camaros, have owned 4 in the past 15 years (1 1st gen, 3 3rd gens) and I'm hoping that after all this mess with GM is over, the Camaro sticks around... I was a sad panda when they stopped making them back in 2002!

It looks like this list went through the same quality control that GM is legendary for:

006. Matching Headlight Halos strength. (one defective being dimmer then the other). Than != Then
015. Digital Speedometer is off. Also keeps going on and off. Off what? Turns off and on? Off as in not accurate?
032. Squeaky Breaks So what exactly does little Squeaky keep breaking? Maybe the car's brakes?
039. Loose interior windshield trim loose So does doubly-loose mean it's really bad?

And that's just a small sampling of the ones that jumped out at me while reading. Don't even ask me to proof-read it.
