Pizza the Hut?
Pizza Hut (at least the one I've been to most often) has served pasta for years. It is not new.
@I Love New Jersey: Yeah, but it will backfire on them. I'm sure people will commonly be inserting creative terms such as 'Gross Pizza', 'Barf', and 'Indigestion' in place of 'Pizza' in the name.

@nataku83: There still is a Little Caesars Pizza! Pizza! inside Luxor Hotel & Casino at Las Vegas. I normally try to hit up the place each time I'm in that town for more than a few days stretch.
Nothing better says to the Egyptians (Luxor), \"Remember when we were ruled by Caesar and the Romans! Here, have a Pizza! Pizza! and never forget!\"

@nataku83: I live half a mile from one. They now do $5 \"hot and ready\" pizzas ... cheese, sausage, and pepperoni always in the warmer and ready to go. On nights when we can't be bothered to cook, a $5 hot-and-ready is kick-ass. They also now have awesome Italian cheese bread, although I feel that the crazy bread has gone down a little in quality over the years.

In Oklahoma City little cesars raised the prices to $5.99 for a hot-and-ready pepperoni pizza.
When we were on vacation on our drive to Florida we saw a bill board advertising $5.49...this leads me to believe they are testing different price points.
@nataku83: Little Caesars totally disappeared probably 15 years ago from the Seattle area, and suddenly in the past 2-3 years like 10 new stores have popped up all over the place.

Used to be decent, cheap pizza that didn't even come in a cardboard box. Haven't tried one lately.

It's a great pizza to have every once and a while. Not to mention all the oil really cleans the pipes if you're having some congestion on the intestinal superhighway.
Maybe serving pasta is the beginning of expanding their offerings. Funny thing, though, someone else makes their pasta dishes for them. They just heat it up and serve it! ;-)

@rtwigg: As an employee of Pizza Hut - or \"The Hut,\" if you please - I can safely say that you are mistaken about the pasta dishes.
Wrong. They make all pastas dishes in-store. They mix the pasta with sauce, and fresh cheese everyday. Any pasta from the previous day is thrown out.
@rtwigg: Yes, but if you're a paid actor in one of their commercials, their \"heat and serve\" pasta is so good that you'll think its passable restaurant fare.

aren't free standing pizza hut restaurants kind of a thing of the past anyway? Anymore, you got Pizza Hut/Taco Bell/KFC (Kentaco Hut) in the same building anymore.

@tom2133: I rather go to someplace that basically just does pizza. Hell, I'd even go to a place that has some combination of \"famous\" \"original\" \"Ray's\" in in before I would go to some mass produced \"pizza\" place.
I wonder how much logic is really behind the 'texting generation' thing. Are they really trying to build market presence around texting by pretty much changing the name of the company? If Pizza Hut is not seen in any marketing, effectively they are.

Also, shortening it by one syllable (two letters)...makes all the difference in the world.

And I point this out because KFC later expressed some regret at taking the word CHICKEN out of their name and began trying to reincorporate their old name back into advertising and marketing.

What is up with the pasta stuff Pizza Hut is adding? Who goes to Pizza Hut for pasta? The ads look totally gross.
Also, I have yet to find chain pizza that I can't beat just by buying DiGiornio's. Thin & Crispy and Stuffed Crust is especially excellent.
@yevarechecha: With all the stuff they are adding, it would be hard to keep up the name with the selection. We would have Pizza Pasta Wings Salad Hut. It's easier just to call it the Hut, make a nickname the name. progressive marketing tactics there. Will my GPS keep up? So many variables.

Our local channel 2 has rebranded itself as \"The Deuce,\" and they are saying it like every ten seconds. It's like that time I decided I wanted everyone to start calling me Hot Rod, and I was all like, \"HEY, HOT ROD HERE,\" even though I was standing right there, and they could see it was me.
Anyways, I'm hoping they decide to abandon this marketing strategy, so we can finally say that Channel 2 is dropping the deuce.

I had my local Pizza Hut close down. You could call them...they might answer. I went to the buffet one day and no one ever seated me, brought me refills or anything. I got my own. Also, there were like 5 old slices of pizza on the buffet. The next time I went with my wife, and the waitress was talking to some friends of hers. We waited patiently to be seated for about 7-8 minutes. The waitress glanced over her shoulder at us, then continued chatting with her friends. Never went back and I am glad they are out of business.

Too bad the company wants to throw away huge brand recognition (the name Pizza Hut and its longstanding logo) on such a nondescriptive name. I think most people already understand that there may be things other than pizza to order at Pizza Hut.
The sign for the Baker's Square near where I live just says \"The Square.\" I don't think that's gonna help it become more trendy.

They've already a similar thing in the UK and Australia, by renaming some restaurants to \"Pasta Hut\". It didn't work - they changed everything back within a couple of months in the UK.
Their pasta sucks anyway.
umm.. this story is ancient. Pizza Hut changed their boxes over 6 months ago, to \"The Hut\". However all other signs and such still remain \"Pizza Hut\", it's still Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut is good quality pizza, they actually do use all natural ingredients, and they cut real vegetables at the actual store, never frozen. There are a lot of poor quality pizza joints, but Pizza Hut is not one of them.
It POSES the question, it doesn't beg it. Only an answer to a question can beg that question.

The last two times we have tried to purchase a Pizza Hut pizza, we have been turned away because they were \"out\" of the size pizza that we wanted to order. The first one happened about 5 years ago, and we hadn't called back until just a couple of weeks ago. And it happened again. We just shook our heads, went to Trader Joe's, bought dough and made our own pizza.
Bummer. Where I live it has always been affectionately known as \"Pizza Slut\".
Let's see, what else rhymes with \"Hut\"? Slut? Butt? Rut? Nut? Shut?
