The use of beef ingredients in grilled chicken just seems wrong to me, and we believe most consumers would agree," said Steve Carley, CEO of El Pollo Loco.

KFC doesn't see what the big deal is. "Small amounts of beef flavors are commonly used in seasonings for many food products, for both restaurant and retail use," a spokesperson for the chain told the LA Times.

"For Kentucky Grilled Chicken's topical seasoning, beef flavors account for only 0.2% of the total seasoning," he added.

Still, El Pollo Loco thinks people will want beef-free chicken. You can check out their new ad campaign at their new website: Beefychicken.com.

The surprising thing in this story is that there is chicken in KFC food.

BTW, I believe the reason that McD's put beef juice in their fries is because they earned their reputation for the best fries in the early days of the corporation when they cooked french fries in beef tallow. Now they use various vegetable oils, and the fries are a shadow of their former glory.

I am allergic to milk products. I ask about them wherever I go. If you have a reason to not eat some foods, it is your responsibility to ask about their presence in food you didn't make. It is also the responsibility of food makers to clearly state what is in their food if asked.

I do not eat beef, or any other red meat, only chicken and fish and to hear that a company puts beef in their CHICKEN products is appalling.
However, on the other hand, i don't touch KFC, so it doesn't really make a difference. But for others like me, who don't eat beef, this is ridiculous.

An interesting thing to do is to just taste a tiny amount of MSG alone. The horrific flavor you'll experience is actually what your mouth tastes like.

Of course it told people. If you had looked at the nutritional ingredients, you would have seen so, just like the pollo people did. The whole point wasn't whether corn had beef in it. I was pointing out that THAT is how there might be beef tallow used in the creation of grilling chicken. You have to oil it up somehow so it doesn't get dry on the grill. They probably just decided to use tallow. No story here.

I watched something on the food network where they tested it, and unanimously the judges, who were trained chefs, found that food tasted better with it. They also split a room in half and gave half food with, and half food without MSG, and determined that only around 1% of people actually had reaction to it. Most of the people who claimed to be allergic were full of it.

It is quite common that I will eat a hamburger, and have a chicken reaction. Why? Because the burger was fried on a pan that chicken was fried in.

It's annoying as shit to not be able to trust the food that contains "no chicken" but I have learned to deal with it.

Allergic to beef? You'll get no sympathy from me. Plenty of places are totally free of beef because it's more expensive. Try finding a place that makes burgers but does not also serve fried chicken, or fried fish (I am allergic to fish as well).

Hinduism isn't what you would call an organized religion. There aren't exactly strict rules. Some hindus are vegetarian (very few are vegan, because milk, butter, honey and yogurt are used in certain prayer ceremonies), but some eat meat.

Some only eat fish (common in Kerala, where "vegetarian" food often includes fish), some will eat fish and shellfish but not chicken, some will eat any meat except beef, some will eat all meat. It really depends on family practice and personal choice.

(My grandparents don't eat eggs or wear leather, but my dad will eat any meat, including beef. My mother eats fish and shellfish but nothing else. I don't eat beef or any bovine. We are all hindus.)

As for KFC, I find this extremely distressing. I never tried their grilled chicken but if I had I would be pissed off that they never disclosed that their chicken contains beef.

It's also not like there wasn't a clear example as to why this was a problem already existing in the industry with the enormous outpouring of grief that was hurled at McDonald's for including beef suet in their French Fry oil.

For KFC to claim it was adequately disclosed by burying it on a PDF on their website MIGHT satisfy some jury is someone with a beef allergy goes into anaphylactic shock, but it is not going to satisfy community outrage by people who don't eat red meat (or only eat halal/kosher red meat) when they find out KFC was pulling this stunt. If it's such a small component of the recipe, then why can't a non-meat alternative be found? Can't they use chicken flavoring and chicken fat? Or Soy?
