Am I the only one who thinks it should be the parent's responsibility to turn on the channel filter. Just saying.

I totally blame the lazy parents on this one. When the guy installed my cable, he showed me how to block a channel and I didn't even ask him to. I don't have kids, but if I did I'd at least lock out the pay per views.

Yup, I have to agree, if the parent isn't using the existing method for blocking his kids from seeing the channels & titles he shouldn't get to complain and make the provider change the way things work.
There is ALREADY a way to make it work, USE IT.
This is no better then when websites complain about google & the internet wayback machine indexing their sites because they are too stupid to use a robots.txt and expect them to ask permission before indexing.
Excuse me I have to go take a couple of showers now as I feel very dirty for actually defending comcast.

@pmr12002: While it is a parent's responsibility (or someone who doesn't want to look at porn titles regardless), every cable company, box, and software is different. It's not necessarily that easy.
The only good thing when I had Adelphia was that it had a very easy menu and it had a selection \"Hide Adult Programming Titles.\" It didn't block rated R, it didn't block every channel. It was simple to use and did it just perfectly.

Along the same lines, why is it that parents have to \"opt out\" of pr0n instead of \"opt in\"? Why can't there be a \"show me the pr0n\" button instead of having to jump through hoops to turn it off?

@Eoghann: Funny, i feel the same way about all the !#@#&*(@ shopping (and sports) channels. All that crap should be off by default. In fact, all systems should come configured they way *I* want by default!
Seriously though, stupid cable/dish providers, just go to freaking a la carte already so I can buy the 6 channels I want without 144 more useless ones!
@j-o-h-n: Those crappy shopping channels are there because they subsidize the costs of carrying the 6 channels you want. If there werent all those shopping channels your cable bill would go up and if they went ala carte the 6 channels you want would probably cost almost as much as what youre paying now
@j-o-h-n: Exactly... what's next, shout Comcast block Nancy Grace by default, and BET? I find QVC much more offensive than pron, they should block that too!
Until someone can PROVE that pron actually harms kids, this is just an overblown reaction by those who brought you raisingate at the super bowl..

A Parent Who Doesn't Hate Sex (OBVIOUSLY) But Thinks Kids Shouldn't Be Exposed to Inappropriate Adult Fare Before They Are Ready to Understand It or When They're Just Trying to Find Out When a Show Comes On

Exactly. I like porn as much as the next guy, possibly more, but I can also understand why a parent might not want to have to explain what a \"Busty Virgin\" is to a 5 year old.
I'd much rather see people complain to companies and have them make minor changes that keep everyone happy than, say, demand more legislation to fix the problem.
@pmr12002: No, try as I could, I couldn't filter programs out of my comcast guide. I wanted to be able to skip over 600+ junk channels and couldn't do it. Don't even get me started on when I called their tech support...

@HRHKingFridayXX: Press Menu twice, go to Block: Channels, and select the channels you want blocked. Press A. Then go to Block: Titles, and select \"Hidden.\" Titles blocked.
@pmr12002: nope...I agree. But that would mean that parent would have to do something other than just have sex and pop out a kid. I mean...you are talking real work here.

@Eyebrows McGee (now with more baby!): very oddly amateurish method for keeping adult channels separate from kids' chans. dummy channels? so kids have to scroll for an extra 2 seconds to see the names anyway? why not just a simple setting that changes all PPV names to 'Pay Per View event' or something and when dad goes looking for porn, he might have to take the extra 15 seconds to go in, enter a password and unlock the titles temporarily.
i mean, isn't it more logical to remove the dangling carrot altogether instead of just reeling it in a bit higher?
@Eyebrows McGee (now with more baby!): It's not Logical to number them that way... kids programing and PPV have nothing to do with each other, and it's not even the HD PPV.
So... it's both nonsensical and illogical (a.k.a. they have a semi-random channel numbering system).
But I do <3 you eyebrows, and I get what you were going at.

They just lumped all the HD channels + likey the ota ones + sub channels in a group in the 400's with ppv starting at 500 also inDemand ppv used to ppv movies now they just have adult ppv not all of is pron / ppv events and sports packs.
The cable channle line ups are a mess why can they be better grouped?
Now why can't they have the HD channels have the same number as there SD ones as well as hide SD duplicates / hide adult channles like direct tv can?
