Now one company known for marketing an acai elixir has settled a lawsuit from the Arizona Attorney General over charges of deceptive practices.

("CCN"), and its Phoenix-based owner Graham Gibson have agreed to pay nearly $1.4 million total, but a million of that goes to the state. $350,000 has been set aside to distribute among customers nationwide who were victims of CCN's misleading upsells and deliberately bad customer service:

According to the complaints, consumers who purchased the low-cost "risk-free trial offers" of CCN's health supplements were also charged for costly products and services that they did not request. These included pre-selected "up-sell" products that the consumer had to actively de-select in the online order form to avoid being charged. When consumers tried to contact CCN regarding the unauthorized charges, they often faced hold times over an hour and their e-mails never received a response.

The Better Business Bureau, which says they receive over 2200 complaints about the company in the past 12 months, says consumers can file a complaint whether they live in Arizona or not.

Victims of CCN [can] file a complaint via phone at 602.542.5763 or 800.352.8431(toll free) or via email at consumerinfo@azag.gov by August 17.

Those same consumers can save even more money by not buying any more miracle drinks via infomercials or websites.

This company was a total scam. As were many who were attempting to jump on the bandwagon of Oprah and similar television shows.

However, Açaí berries are extremely potent antioxidants and very healthy fruits. The Açaí berries have comparable anti-oxidants given a certain serving amount to both small red beans and wild blueberries; however, pomegranate juice, the beans, blueberries, grape juice, and the like all are rated as higher anti-oxidants.

These antioxidants alone are enough to, in fact, fight cancer. They prevent a process known as oxidation that causes free radicals that in turn causes chain reactions that damage cells (which can lead to cancer). The antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates. Many of these antioxidants (ascorbic acid and carotenoids are commmonly found in fruits and vegetables) have cancer preventing as well as cancer fighting properties--and also can prevent brain issues, and reduce the chance for heart disease.

They aren't the savior fruit that is the be all end all of problems--but they are very healthy.

I've read reports that point out that things like blueberry juice, and even more mundane juices have more nutritional benefit. I belong to a networking group, and when new members want to join it gets run past the rest of the group for approval. We had a MonaVie rep that wanted to join, and while the overall consensus was to have her at least come to one meeting, I was very much against it. She showed up once, and was so forceful that no one wanted her back.

I recall 10 years or so ago, a lady that was doing my nails tried to sell me concentrated aloe vera juice. As she painted my nails, she told me "One of our customer representatives gave this juice to a little girl in Mexico with a huge tumor on her neck, he saw her there while he was on vacation. Every day he gave her another cup of juice, and every day the tumor shrank. On the 7th day it was gone." I never went back to that salon again.

My mother was approached by some woman selling "magnetic blankets" in her retirement community. The woman told her they cured a little boy with deadly asthma attacks and he threw out his inhaler after getting this magic blanket. Said the magics "realigned the body's molecules" to cure disease. My mother told her to get bent.

My dad was talked into buying MonaVie. The company calls 4 bottles a "case". A case is a little over $100. So, $25 a bottle for worthless juice. After he cancelled, Monavie kept sending him cases. It took forever to get his money back, but he persisted. What a rip off company. Every time I see a joker with a Monavie sticker on their car, I go ballistic.

MonaVie, Xango, etc., These drinks are being pushed with claims that they prevent cancer and cure all sorts of ailments. The company gets away with it since the 'resellers' are unaffiliated. Personally, I just feel bad for the family members of the acai pushers who have to buy a bottle to be nice and choke it down.
