It was tragic that I had to leave them for AT&T to fully use my iPhone. Alas, they only started rolling out 3G. Here in Denver, their coverage had been fantastic (There's one dead spot I know of near my home). Not so with AT&T. Other people on the line have to say what all the time. If there were enough 3G towers/space, the iPhone wouldn't have to downshift constantly. (Recent trip to Boulder had me all the way down to GPRS before the \"whats\" ended). That and it's Russian roulette at my desk if I get good days of calling or bad days. Stationary!<p>Meanwhile, my hubby still has his T-M phone and because of that we got their @Home service. $10/mo for VOIP. Free national calling. I had several issues, but the main one was how TMobile phones have trouble switching towers. I could tell you the street corners were I would drop all connectivity until I rebooted the phone. 3-5 times a day going to a from work.</p><p>I am a technical guy, and I work in a call center myself. I know what it is like being on the phone working with Customers on a daily basis. I first thought it was something that would get fixed, and I would be happy. It got frustrating when every time I called they had me do the exact same troubleshooting. Master reset on phone, reset on the tower. It's like they weren't taking any notes on my account at all. No force in the world could have persuaded those people to try something different. Oh I eventually got an answer. It was \"Yes sir, you will have to reboot your phone each time you encounter the connection loss. It is normal to have to do that.\" Believe me, I called back several times, and talked to many supervisors after hearing that one.</p><p>I have no issues now. I emailed their Executive Customer Service (got the addy from Consumerist) and they let me out of my contract ETF free!</p><p>So yeah, not a good experience. I worked with them as long as I could. I escalated as much as I could. It clinched it in the end when they refused to do anything else for me. I got no compensation for days of outages, no offers to compensate me for any of my problems except half off on a new phone that they said would have the same issues.</p><p>They are just a big business like all the others, and will screw you if they can get away with it. It's not that I put AT&amp;T so much above them, it's just that I can live with the problems I have with AT&amp;T and not with TMobile.</p> </div>	<div class=\"reply\"> <div class=\"reply-button\"><a title=\"Reply\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"mtReplyCommentOnClick(12710525, 'KenJason')\">Reply</a></div> </div><!-- end reply- button --> </div></div> <!-- Display comment (reply comment, which may be a parent of more replies) --> <div class=\"inner-reply-container\" > <!-- For each reply comment, recursively display any reply comments --> </div> </div> <!-- For each reply comment, recursively display any reply comments --> </div> </div> <!-- For each reply comment, recursively display any reply comments --> </div> <!-- Loop through the reply comments --> <div class=\"comment last\" id=\"comment-12641950\"> <div class=\"inner\"> <div class=\"user-pic\"> <a href=\"http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-cp.cgi?__mode=view&amp;amp;blog_id=1&amp;amp;id=41611\"><img src=\"/css/images/default.gif\" width=\"60\" height=\"60\" alt=\"user-pic\" /></a> </div> <div class=\"comment-header\"> <div class=\"asset-meta\"> <div class=\"vcard author\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-cp.cgi?__mode=view&amp;blog_id=1&amp;id=41611\">nforcer</a> </div> <div class=\"comment-date\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/2009/05/t-mobile-provides-iphone-support-despite-not-offering-iphone.html#comment-12641950\"><abbr class=\"published\" title=\"2009-05-07T01:25:40-05:00\">May 7, 2009 1:25 AM</abbr></a></div> <div class=\"comment-moderate\"><span><a href=\"javascript:moderateComment(12641950);\">Moderate</a> |</span><a href='javascript:void(0)' onClick=\"return moderate(this, 'http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/Moderate/moderate.cgi?__mode=flag&comment_id=12641950');\">Flag for review</a></div> </div> </div><!-- end comment header --> <div class=\"comment-content\"> <p>@<a href=\"#c12641670\" rel=\"nofollow\">the bends</a>: True that. Because everyone always buys phones with a contract to get the cheap phone a lot of time people forget that they are mainly buying a service. The company will make a lot more off of you in two years after you buy the free phone than it would have made on the phone it self. Thats why they do it.</p><p>At the end of the day though this should really not surprise many. Someone was paying for a service that was working before and a change on the service provider's end caused for a glitch. They corrected their problem and made amends for their mistake. Thanks for vindicating us!</p> </div>	<div class=\"reply\"> <div class=\"reply-button\"><a title=\"Reply\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"mtReplyCommentOnClick(12645396, 'Lucky225')\">Reply</a></div> <!-- if it's a top level category ' --> </div><!-- end reply- button --> </div></div> <!-- Display comment (top level parent) --> </div>","","<div class=\"comments-content\"> <div class=\"comment\" id=\"comment-12645763\"> <div class=\"inner\"> <div class=\"user-pic\"> <a href=\"http://\"><img src=\"/css/images/default.gif\" width=\"60\" height=\"60\" alt=\"user-pic\" /></a> </div> <div class=\"comment-header\"> <div class=\"asset-meta\"> <div class=\"vcard author\"><a title=\"http://\" href=\"http://\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cocoa Vanilla</a> </div> <div class=\"comment-date\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/2009/05/t-mobile-provides-iphone-support-despite-not-offering-iphone.html#comment-12645763\"><abbr class=\"published\" title=\"2009-05-07T05:04:41-05:00\">May 7, 2009 5:04 AM</abbr></a></div> <div class=\"comment-moderate\"><span><a href=\"javascript:moderateComment(12645763);\">Moderate</a> |</span><a href='javascript:void(0)' onClick=\"return moderate(this, 'http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/Moderate/moderate.cgi?__mode=flag&comment_id=12645763');\">Flag for review</a></div> </div> </div><!-- end comment header --> <div class=\"comment-content\"> <p>@<a href=\"#c12645462\" rel=\"nofollow\">chris_d</a>: Technically, jailbreaking is opening the filesystem up for write access. Overall, I like T-mobile, their prices are right, and I have had good service any time I needed it. There is a good chance I will be moving from T-mobile though, as half of the city where I live now doesn't have reliable T-mobile service, and who knows how many years it will be before they have 3G service here. Frankly, those are things I care about the most. I'll probably move to Sprint, as even though they don't have as good of customer service as T-Mobile, they have 3G coverage here that covers the entire city, and unlike Verizon and AT&amp;T, their prices are reasonable. Yeah, the mobile carriers may seem evil at times, but it would not make good business sense here. #1 item on the agenda of the mobile carriers is user retention to maintain a healthy revenue stream? Why would T-Mobile want to make their users get a new phone? These days many phones are a liability because they are subsidized by the company. If the user breaks the contract then the carrier might be stuck with the bill and without the revenue. Allowing a user to use a phone that they paid for completely removes this liability and guarantees (at least makes it more likely) that the customer will keep sending money to the carrier for service.</p> </div>	<div class=\"reply\"> <div class=\"reply-button\"><a title=\"Reply\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"mtReplyCommentOnClick(12648582, '')\">Reply</a></div> <!-- if it's a top level category ' --> </div><!-- end reply- button --> </div></div> <!-- Display comment (top level parent) --> </div>","","","","<div class=\"comments-content\"> <div class=\"comment\" id=\"comment-12649582\"> <div class=\"inner\"> <div class=\"user-pic\"> <a href=\"http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-cp.cgi?__mode=view&amp;amp;blog_id=1&amp;amp;id=72398\"><img src=\"http://consumerist.com/assets_c/userpics/userpic-72398-100x100.png\" width=\"60\" height=\"60\" alt=\"user-pic\" /></a> </div> <div class=\"comment-header\"> <div class=\"asset-meta\"> <div class=\"vcard author\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-cp.cgi?__mode=view&amp;blog_id=1&amp;id=72398\">drgncabe</a> </div> <div class=\"comment-date\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/2009/05/t-mobile-provides-iphone-support-despite-not-offering-iphone.html#comment-12649582\"><abbr class=\"published\" title=\"2009-05-07T13:32:51-05:00\">May 7, 2009 1:32 PM</abbr></a></div> <div class=\"comment-moderate\"><span><a href=\"javascript:moderateComment(12649582);\">Moderate</a> |</span><a href='javascript:void(0)' onClick=\"return moderate(this, 'http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/Moderate/moderate.cgi?__mode=flag&comment_id=12649582');\">Flag for review</a></div> </div> </div><!-- end comment header --> <div class=\"comment-content\"> <p>I've had good luck with T-Mobile. AT&amp;T blew me off, despite that SIM being on the $68k/mo corp cell account and yet T-Mobile spent hours trying to troubleshoot the problem with RIM and their \"Unsupported Devices Support Team\" to eventually find out that the problem was with the 8310. I sent it back to where I bought it from (overstock.com, ugh) and bought an 8900 instead and have been happy since. They said they would send phone model #1234 but when it arrived it was a phone model #5678. When I called to get an RMA to send model #5678 back they asked me why I had thought I was getting model #1234 and all I had to say was \"That is what the customer phone sales/service rep had told me.\" That alone was enough to issue an RMA- no fighting about it.</p><br /><p>My spouse (2nd) and I recently got a deal via CostCo celluar vendor to transfer her account to TMobile to my account under both the Costco vendor promotion and my loyalty plan- free phone plus the loyalty plan plus the loyalty transfer credit. I've had an iPhone on T-Mobile since the first command line unlock hit. It's been great; standard voice plan + $5.99 TZones. They've never had a problem keeping me grandfathered in and even credited my account when the system \"automatically\" bumped me to the $9.99 Web To Go plan instead.</p><p>That, however, ended when my wife inherited a 2g iPhone and we tried to add even the Web To Go plan. Every CSR we've spoken with has somewhere in the conversation said \"it looks like you're using an iPhone so we can only activate the $29.99 data plan for your phone\" and sticks to that line despite any amount of pleading, debating, pointing out, etc.</p><p>We'll stick with TMO but ... it sure would be nice if they would charge the same for unlocked iPhone data as they do for a supported Samsung model's data.</p> </div>	<div class=\"reply\"> <div class=\"reply-button\"><a title=\"Reply\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"mtReplyCommentOnClick(12654048, 'TheName')\">Reply</a></div> </div><!-- end reply- button --> </div></div> <!-- Display comment (reply comment, which may be a parent of more replies) --> <div class=\"inner-reply-container\" > <!-- For each reply comment, recursively display any reply comments --> </div> </div> </div>","","","","<div class=\"comments-content\"> <div class=\"comment\" id=\"comment-12654804\"> <div class=\"inner\"> <div class=\"user-pic\"> <a href=\"\"><img src=\"/css/images/default.gif\" width=\"60\" height=\"60\" alt=\"user-pic\" /></a> </div> <div class=\"comment-header\"> <div class=\"asset-meta\"> <div class=\"vcard author\">Victor Cao </div> <div class=\"comment-date\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/2009/05/t-mobile-provides-iphone-support-despite-not-offering-iphone.html#comment-12654804\"><abbr class=\"published\" title=\"2009-05-07T16:46:29-05:00\">May 7, 2009 4:46 PM</abbr></a></div> <div class=\"comment-moderate\"><span><a href=\"javascript:moderateComment(12654804);\">Moderate</a> |</span><a href='javascript:void(0)' onClick=\"return moderate(this, 'http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/Moderate/moderate.cgi?__mode=flag&comment_id=12654804');\">Flag for review</a></div> </div> </div><!-- end comment header --> <div class=\"comment-content\"> <p>Tmo FTW!</p> </div>	<div class=\"reply\"> <div class=\"reply-button\"><a title=\"Reply\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"mtReplyCommentOnClick(12654804, 'Victor Cao')\">Reply</a></div> <!-- if it's a top level category ' --> </div><!-- end reply- button --> </div></div> <!-- Display comment (top level parent) --> </div>","","","<div class=\"comments-content\"> <div class=\"comment\" id=\"comment-12656064\"> <div class=\"inner\"> <div class=\"user-pic\"> <a href=\"\"><img src=\"/css/images/default.gif\" width=\"60\" height=\"60\" alt=\"user-pic\" /></a> </div> <div class=\"comment-header\"> <div class=\"asset-meta\"> <div class=\"vcard author\">Ryan Boyden </div> <div class=\"comment-date\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/2009/05/t-mobile-provides-iphone-support-despite-not-offering-iphone.html#comment-12656064\"><abbr class=\"published\" title=\"2009-05-07T17:23:29-05:00\">May 7, 2009 5:23 PM</abbr></a></div> <div class=\"comment-moderate\"><span><a href=\"javascript:moderateComment(12656064);\">Moderate</a> |</span><a href='javascript:void(0)' onClick=\"return moderate(this, 'http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/Moderate/moderate.cgi?__mode=flag&comment_id=12656064');\">Flag for review</a></div> </div> </div><!-- end comment header --> <div class=\"comment-content\"> <p><p>This is the reason I am with T-mobile. Verizon is a joke and look for every way to strip some more cash from your pocket. Yes verizons network is reliable but that's also because it's an old school reliable network. What you also have to remember is that service a lot of the time also has to do with your phone. In my experiences over the years with tmobile, the better quality the phone (which of course will mean bigger price tag), the better the service. It's one of those things we deal with in a free and open market. I have had problems with tmobile before but in very limited intervals. While I was with verizon, not a month would go by without some greedy scum spewing out onto the phone bill. You want something done right, go German instead of American!
