Ugh. I used Stacker 2 with ephedra along with exercise and I lost a ton of weight. But because idiots like Korey Stringer can't read a label, it ruins it for people who do things the right way.

I just don't understand how folks exercise with that in their system. I was taking some old school Sudafed recently for congestion and running on the treadmill made me feel like a heart attack was a distinct possibility. I feel like that stuff raises my blood pressure enough as it is...

@cmdrsass: I agree with you there. No matter how much I've ever wanted to lose weight I could never bring myself to take weight-loss pills...I'd would rather be chubby than dead. I've also heard that they only work so long as you keep taking them, as soon as you stop you gain back more weight than what you lost...don't know how true that is though. Anyway, moral of the story: weight-loss pills = eek.

One of my ex's started taking this after we broke up because he became obsessed with trying to be as thin as I was. Hope his liver damage was worth it.
I used to take Hydroxycut, but not this one. It was in a black bottle from GNC. The sales guy said theirs was safer or more effective or something, but that was probably just typical marketing BS.
Is there any surprise here? A product whose tag line is \"Lose Weight Fast!\" Whatever happened to exercise and portion control? Alas.
Wasn't it already pulled before, when it still contained ephedrine?
These diet pills are such a bad idea. I'm convinced this was a factor in a friend's death a couple of years ago. I know that they work for some people, but the long-term side effects are scary sometimes.

Some people use a fat burner to assist with working out. It's not just people eating nachos and milkshakes and throwing a few of these back.

@H1N1_GitEmSteveDave: Before the FDA ephedra ban, it used to be your basic ECA stack: ephedrine, caffeine, and aspirin.
Nowadays, they still have the \"CA\" part of the stack, but now they've elimited the ephedrine components and added some other ingredients that ostensibly speed up your metabolism.

I used this long ago. Gave me bad heartburn and acid reflux, and I was only taking like 1/2 the recommended dosage. I have a heart arrhythmia now...I was if it is related.
FYI: While the FDA is unsure what component of this product is causing the liver damage, Hydroxycut contains hydroxycitric acid, which is also found in other weight loss products under various names, including the plant garcinia cambogia, which is a source of hydroxycitric acid.

@calquist: Energy drinks are just caffeine and B-vitamins. I think if coffee and daily vitamins were that harmful, we'd all be dead by now.

The premise for loosing weight is simple : burn more calories than you take in . You can do that be working out or watching what you eat and/or both .
Supplements used to be really cheap until the industry saw people would pay just about anything for their desired look . Problem is with a lot of these dangerous or not you are literally pissing away the supplements and your money .
Which is another problem . Proper hydration is a key for health period let alone when using supplements .
Unless you are professional athlete that must loose weight for money why bother .
Aren't some of the key ingrediants in many of these weight loss supplement Ephedra & caffenine which will speed up the heart which I can see causing problems for an out of shape user . Remember alot of people don't associate physical fittness AND weight loss - they don't realize they go hand and hand .

BuddyGuyMontag: That's true, but it doesn't necessarily mean that products like this are a good addition to a fitness program. The supplement industry pushes a lot of unnecessary crap. With fat-burners, what you usually wind up with is caffeine and aspirin, herbs of questionable efficacy, and nutrients that you could get from a good multivitamin. Weight-gain formulas tend to have a lot of sugar, fillers, and artificial colors/flavors.
It's not as simple as \"exercise and portion control\" for people who want hardcore results fast, but there are much better options than this crap. I supplement with fish oil and a mix of plain grocery-store vitamins and have seen excellent results. Pure protein powder from whey or pea sources (I don't like soy) is better for muscle gain than most of the fancy flavored stuff they sell at GNC; actual meat is even better. And if I thought the stuff in green tea would help me toward my goals, well, I'd go drink some.
Can we stop those annoying commercials now too?

Yes, Hydroxycut works. I lost 50 pounds on Hydroxycut. Mostly because Im wasting away cause my liver is dying. But look how fit I am!
God... I understand that sometimes you need help to control your appettite but in reality its mostly just will to go out and exercise and portion control.
I already consulted with Dr. Jon Marshall. He told me to keep using Hydroxycut as he has used it himself with FANTASTIC results.

I've used this product actually. The last time I used it was a year ago, Hydroxycut Hardcore. I didn't feel particularly bad from it, and it helped me lose weight and give me energy while I used it. I think this recall is more along the lines of the FDA trying to figure out what exactly happened and which ingredients are most likely to blame (as supplements are not regulated, illness/deaths are reported/studied after the fact I believe). They're saying the hydroxycitric acid seems to be a culprit, whatever that is. Also ominous were some compounds associated with green tea. Until we get the complete story I'll see what happened.
The hydroxycitric acid is the garcinia cambogia which you see in tons of products out there.

@gemetzel: Herbal supplements and the like need no approval from the FDA. Senator Hatch (Utah Republican) has blocked any laws requiring approval beforehand. By some amazing coincidence, Utah is also the US's biggest producer of these supplements.

Maybe NOW the FDA will start to regulate these type of \"herbal suppliments\". Just because something is 'natural', doesn't automatically mean it's safe (ie, mushrooms, poison ivy, cocaine)
There's also manufacturing processes to consider. Even if all the ingredients are generally safe, remember the melamine tainted milk and pet food? The salmonella in peanut products most recently? I posted the list of ingredients above. They're pretty common. I would imagine that they same suppliers that sell to Hydroxycut sell to plenty of other supplement makers. I'm wondering if we're going to see some other brands recalled.
If only we could be so lucky. At some point in my life, I'd like to live in a world based on reality. However, I find that to be a very, very unlikely prospect.

How to lose weight: expend more calories than you consume each day. All the pills, phony diets and the rest are nonsense.

I forced myself to go for a walk the other day. I actually felt better afterwards, even though I was tired. With my thyroid problem, sometimes I'm TOO tired to exercise (and it makes it harder to lose weight, too, darn it!), but a 20-minute walk with iPod and water bottle is usually within my strength parameters even if I can't do one more thing. I'm afraid if I took one of these supplements, it would mess with my thyroid medication, too, and then where would I be?
The only problem here is lousy weather.

I find it interesting that I take several prescription medications that carry these same risks and more (sudden death is my favorite among them all), but they're FDA approved. I'm not endorsing Hydroxycut, but it seems there are two sets of rules--one for the big drug companies and another for independent businesses.
Shash/Maya has a good point about the steroids or what ever they spike the supplements with . I've heard stories of positve testing Olympic athletes complaining about contamination in their supplements from the supplement companies . The supplement companies say it's pharmacuetical residue given to the livestock were alot supplements come from .
Hogwarts has the right idea with just a 20 minute walk . You don't have to kill yourself working out with time or effort . You just need consistency . I always heard when doing cardiovasular exercise you should be able to converse . If you breathe too hard the body winds up burning more blood sugar than fat . Fat like alot of other stuff burns better in the presence of oxygen . Can't get alot of oxygen out of breath .
And you don't need designer or name brand vitamins/nutrients either . Almost every week somebody has their house brand vitamins on sale buy one get one free .
I urge anyone that has been using this product to A: contact your physician B: contact a good attorney, these mutts at Hydroxicut have been hyping this product while all along knowing that the product was not only bogus in it's claims but harmful to consumers and deserve to be sued by any consumer who was effected by their product.

I used to work at GNC and sold several of these (they're pretty expensive!). We got extra commission on them, so I would steer dieters towards them...Oops.
I think the manufacturers should all be forced to shovel this drug down now so the government can ascertain exactly what the damages are - control group.
I noticed some Potassium in there . Isn't Potassium capable of causing hyper activity in children ?
And polyvinyl alcohol - Isn't polyvinyl a plastic ?

A friend of mine is a medic in the Army. On his last deployment to Iraq he checked out a guy who was on meds for hypertension and then the idiot was doing No XPlode and Hydroxycut and wasn't drinking water.
My friend called in the doctor. \"Hey Captain, check out this dumbass!\"
The patient was a bit pissed off at the remark being higher rank than my friend, however when the doctor came in he said \"Check out this dumbass.\"
My friend's seen far too many idiots show up with complications from all this dosing.

I always looked at the name and thought it sounded like a trendy name-merge of Hydrogen and Oxygen...and immediately thought \"So it helps cut excess water? You lose water weight?\". And I wouldn't be the least surprised if it did.
FYI not everyone who takes Hydroxycut or any other weight loss supplmenet is JUST taking them and hoping to lose weight. I was taking this in additional to hard cardio workout EVERY day and a low cal diet and it was working wonders! There is nothing wrong with supplements. I do think they should be regulated by the FDA. Obviously I don't want to take something harmful to body.
I used this stuff for over a year, and lost about 60 lbs of fat, and went from benching about 250 to over 300 lbs. I went to the gym about 6 nights a week, while working 2 full time jobs and going to school full time. Now, I doubt the pills did anything for weight loss directly, but they did give me the energy to get to the gym every night for an hour or two, and cut back my appetite.
Sarah Jeff Rae and xtc46: I have to wonder how much weight you would have lost without the Hydroxycut. Working out six or seven days a week is enough to make the pounds melt off on its own -- I don't know how much of that you could reasonably ascribe to the pills.
It's true that caffeine boosts energy and suppresses appetite, but you might have gotten the same exact results from a couple cups of coffee.
Consistency in working out is the key . Every day you take off is another day for all those calories/fat to build back up . And the more you work out your metabolism goes up to help the body heal and build back up . You don't want to workout to the point of injury or total exhustion either .
And as the percentage of muscle builds up so does the metabolism because it takes more to maintain muscle . That's why it's so important to do a variety of things so you can spreadout workouts and have alternatives when you can't do the samething . And more importantly you are burning calories 5-7 days a week .
My husband has been using Hydroxycut on and off for a few years now. I swore when he takes this stuff he has mood swings. I could tell when he takes it and I could tell when he was off of it. He's mean and hateful when he takes it and as good as gold when he doesn't take it. I tried to find information about this on line if someone else had this problem while taking Hydroxycut but never could.

@Raekwon: Yeah, but I didn't see anything about the drug being banned or pulled, just warning consumers to stop using it. I mean, it would make sense, but I just didn't see any mention of it specifically.
