Better get a retirement plan started. Don't have enough money each month? Get a better paying job or 2nd or 3rd part-time jobs. Start a small business. Do something. Get more education. I can think of hundreds of ways to make more money. Best idea is to turnoff the TV at night and get a part-time job. I have been doing that for nearly 20 years now. All that extra money has been invested not spent. I haven't watched a night-time TV show in 2 decades. Those shows didn't pay me enough to secure my future.

You see how the thinning employment market might be something of an obstacle? I'm all for supplementing income, and have considered getting a part-time side job to do just that, but it's really hard, especially if you're married or have kids.

I go only to the dollar store to get Christmas wrapping paper. I can get more paper than I would going to Target, and it's only $1 a roll. I've got some leftover from last year (when I spent a whopping $5 on paper and gift tags), so this year I won't even buy as much as I did last year.
@pecan 3.14159265: Go to the fabric store a little before Christmas and all the Xmas fabric is on clearance. Wrap presents in fabric. Re-use next year. We're still on a paper roll we bought three years ago because we use so little wrapping paper now.
