@HurtsSoGood: I have this thing called an \"ING Direct Savings Account\" Outperformed S&P 500 by 42% and another thing called \"Credit Rewards Program\" which earned me 200 bucks last year, without paying any fees.

You should only spend if you have the money. No more racking up the credit cards. That's how we got in this position in the first place.

There are plenty of things that are a great deal, if you are in the market for those things. I don't see how a poor economy should change the basic rule of \"would I have purchased this otherwise?\"

@SergioDingo: With good reason, too. As we come out of this in another 3-4 years, inflation is going to skyrocket. You actually want to accumulate debt in the down times and pay them off in the up times. I realize that this sentiment will be looked upon with prejudice by most readers here, but bear me out. Suppose you take out a $15000 car loan today. First, rates are low to attract business in a tough market. Discounts abound and interest rates are low to attract business, and it would be reasonable to expect that policies like TARP and TARF and PPIP will result in massive inflation as the credit market thaws. In other words, you'll be paying that debt back with dollars that take less time and effort to earn.
