@MisterE: You missed my point. When white people watching tv at Christmas see a bunch of rampaging, middle-class soccer moms clawing at each others' eyes in a Best Buy over $5 MP3 players, they don't think "wow, those white people sure are making me look bad."

The problem isn't that those black people are acting like asses; they are. The problem is that you and the original commenter insist on smearing their individual assery on all black people in general. When you almost certainly don't smear the individual asshattery of someone of your own race.

Eli Wiesel wrote an entire book on this. Freedom from prejudice doesn't just mean being able to achieve great things in spite of your race/group/whatever. It also means being able to be an absolute bastard and not have to worry about your own bad behavior reflecting on people who have nothing to do with it.

Everyone does that, and it's not so much racism as it is inflexible thinking and latent self-centeredness.

I'm not implying racism or prejudice or whatever, and don't really care. I just hate hate hate bad logic.

@WoodyXJS: But black people *love* fried chicken. For about two years, I went to KFC here in Oakland every now and then, and I was the only non-black person in the entire place, besides some hispanic employees. I'm asian, so there were still no white folks to be seen. One day, I entered, and the place was almost empty, except for two caucasian people eating dinner. I literally stopped and looked around to see if I had entered the wrong restaurant by mistake.

If their franchise contract requires participation in x y z promotionals, then they have a legal obligation to do so. Popeye's contract apparently doesn't require this, that's all.

Seriously, they come into my store, bitch and moan about a sign that they saw in the store, and then look for you to bend over backwards and give in to what they think they saw. Yeah, I may be a bit bitter, but the customer is not always right..and these people shown in this video should be ashamed of themselves. Even if it is a loss leader he can capitalize on the fact that he is the only Popeyes in the state and make a lot of people happy, and at the same time promote his store. Hungry people will pay more for chicken if they have to. Happy people will come back.

as if there aren't a million other places you can buy food, healthier food at that too.

Reminds me of the lady who called saying the check she deposited on the weekend wasn't available because of a check hold and because of me (specifically me) that i wouldn't reverse that hold (even though I couldn't, had no physical way to do it) that because i wouldn't reverse it that "I" was making her children starve for the weekend.

Needless to say, I gave her a piece of my mind about what I had said and TOLD her not to put words in my mouth. She was quiet for about 15 seconds before she hung up.

Crazy people.

Sure, when I see a commercial on TV for a franchise promotion I would want to read all of the 6 point font on my fuzzy Standard-Definition TV to look at a list of dozens of non-participating stores in under 30 seconds...

If they don't provide that in the commercial I will raise Cain when I waste gas to drive all the way out there and find out they don't participate instead of calling them first and blame the corporation for my stupidity...

Sounds like a good idea! Too bad that the government would never allow such a technology to exist since they would stand to lose too much income from their courier service. I think some guy was working on this back around the turn of the 20th century, but the Government must have suppressed his work to the point where these poor chicken-less people cannot possibly have known about its existence. It's a shame too, they would've saved themselves the trip!

Obviously franchisees don't want to be forced into fronting a lot of money on product. It's a hard line to walk, and both parties look bad when they don't see eye-to-eye. It really hurts the franchisees in the end, and is probably a better tactic to just suck it up and participate.

Entitlement, or why some people are trying to make America stupid

First the Pepsi promotion, then the Popeye's story from a few days ago, and now this one. All videos featuring people angry that some company didn't give them enough stuff for free. You OWE me something for nothing! "False Advertising!" they scream as if they even knew what it meant. People like this make me sick.

I learned about the folly of entitlement when I was probably 7 years old when I thought the tooth fairy "owed" me some money. Why have these people missed out on this lesson?

I seem to be the only one smart enough to recognize both sides of the issue. Yes, obviously this is franchisee who lives and dies by his store. As another poster noted, if it's a loss leader, corporate should cough up the extra money to the franchisee if they expect participation... but if they don't, that's corporate's fault, not the franchisee's fault. If corporate wants the franchisee to participate, it's their responsibility to facilitate the communication. That's not franchisee BS, that's corporate BS.

But, on the other hand, the "participating locations only," part never says which locations are and aren't. So, people will go out, and when they find out THEN that the location isn't participating... well, you already wasted a trip out there, so of course you're not going to be happy that you didn't get what you were hoping for.

So, the franchisee has every right to not participate in what could possibly be nothing more than a huge loss for him (especially given it's the only one in Minneapolis... a lot of out of towners who will NOT come back). And the customers have every right to feel disappointed that something well promoted was not available in the only place that was even somewhat convenient to them. Although some of these bastards could find better ways to express their frustration, and make some attempts to understand the situation... argh.

They have signs all over the restaurant that basically say "we don't participate in popeye's promotions. ONE sauce per meal. WHITE MEAT EXTRA. You are on camera. CASH ONLY" It's like a TGIFridays but instead of mock-vintage signage it's all warning signs. It's really an unwelcoming environment. Luckily we only get a jones for it once a year or so.
