On another note. Dominos did NOT spend the moneys to do a proper criminal background check. I have never ever heard of any Dominos store doing a criminal beckground check on any new delivery driver hire prior to this issue.

It is in part Dominos fault for hiring them and Dominos Corporate for NOT enforcing a mandatory criminal background check for new delivery driver hires.

This left them with an adult KNOWN sex offender who very could of been around children in the work place ESPECIALLY if she delivered to homes with children in them. The lawsuits may fly on that issue alone if she delivered to a home with children. I believe it is a violation for ANY sex offender to be around children on the job in somebodies home in most all states.

Thats just gross I hured they got fired and the girl is getting sued. This is why I order thorugh road table I get delerved. And they like me and my mom we tip and they talk they no us becuse we order from there alot so they know us. There nice they like our cats too.

Anyway, I've no problem with being stiffed now and again if I'm having a good night. My biggest gripe is a lot of people think $2.00 is a good tip when it's well BELOW 10-15%!!! Yes, $2.00 is nice on small orders but I've done many 30-40 dollar orders ON TIME with a pleasant gereeting and gettingh $2.00 - that's asinine. Now would I ever do that to somebody's food? Hell no, that's out of line!

What I do to the obvious non-tippers (ones who never tip anytime never) is when I'm running a couple of orders I do them LAST because me hurrying to their place isn't going to get me money anyway.

@AlxFherMana: I have worked for 2 fast food companies in the past, Arby's and Wendy's. While I did see it happen at Wendy's, the worst I ever saw happen at Arby's was someone putting WAY more mustard on a sandwich than necessary. So to say that it happens everywhere?

It disguises stereotypes and ignorance as fact, and it's used to categorize a subset of the population as inferior and/or dangerous. You (or anyone) can probably come up with 2 or 3 equally horrific bigoted statements about some other minority group if you let the racist/prejudiced part of your mind roam free for a few minutes.

I pretty much never mention my sexuality because it obviously has no place. But there have been some strong anti-gay remarks, and from surprising (to me) sources, on the blog since Sunday, and it's growing increasingly annoying. Imagine if I were black and there were casual "that's just my opinion" racist remarks--truly racist, not simply un-pc humor--being tossed in the comments like little bags of shit.

Okay, so that somewhat explains my personal, individual reaction to this sort of thing and why I felt I needed to disclose my sexuality to mandy_Reeves and any other readers following this. Now set aside my personal involvement for a second and just look at what was written. Mandy_Reeves wrote, on one of my posts--which had no gay content at all in it, by the way--that gays are packed with diseases. Although I can almost understand where she may have developed that idea, what with the first 15-20 years of AIDS and all, it's a very crude and inaccurate assumption.

If the world were different and I didn't know that that sort of mindset is part of the reason why homosexuals are killed/imprisoned/shunned/legislated against around the world, I would have just rolled my eyes at her ignorance. Since we don't, and that sort of mindset causes real damage to innocent people, I don't want it on the Consumerist.

Exterminate this scum. If I discovered someone had messed with my food like that, I don't think I'd have the self control not to beat them until my fist breaks.

I used to go there and hunker down on the bar with my books and a club soda. I got to know the bartenders, and if I was done with classes for the day, I'd get a beer and a burger or whatever. I always tipped as well as I could.

After a little while, I was tasting new dishes the cook was trying out, checking to make sure a new keg of beer wasn't "stale", trying the bartender's new drink special idea, etc. You know the drill I'm sure.

Pretty soon I was doing more socializing than studying, and would often help them set up stuff, carry heavy things out to the back/basement (there was a bartender/busboy combo -- Allison and Luis -- who maybe weighed 200 pounds between them), that sort of thing. I was like an unofficial employee. All because I tipped well when I first got there.

I was saying, "I appreciate your effort to hop on over with a soda or beer, and it's a slow day, so I don't mind paying double". They liked having me around, obviously, and knew when to leave me be. During midterms, they'd let me crash out in a back booth and they'd bring over a whole pitcher of soda water, and I'd get a good 3 hour stretch in.

When I'd go there at night, when it was wall-to-wall packed, I'd get treated like a friggin' king.

Not every place is like that, but if it's a place you frequent, it's well worth tipping the hell out of a waitress, waiter, bartender, etc.

The rule was that you didn't look at the tears sheets to see where a pie was going, you grabbed the oldest one on the ready line. The reality was that the addresses of known good tippers (or, in one case, a very hot lady who always wore a bathrobe) got their pizzas fought over and out first.

Lousy tippers or pain in the asses were usually delivered by the newer guys who hadn't learned to sift through the pile and cherry pick the good deliveries. You learn quick, though, and the manager turns a blind eye.

The reason I pay extra is because I know what happens in a pizza place, especially to those who habitually fail to tip, are always a pain in the ass, etc. And I don't want it to happen to my food.

That may sound terrible, but it's foolish to refuse to accept the reality of situation.

If you have been stiffing your delivery guy, then you have almost certainly ingested bodily fluids, stuff from the floor, pocket lint, old ingredients, etc. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is.

I agree you shouldn't dam the whole Dominos chain . This is an industry problem and part of the culture of the kids that work there .

I say use this an example of what not to do in the food service industry period . The restaurant industry seems to be one of the only service industries that directly messing with the customer's product is " OK " because they didn't get a tip or the customer didn't treat them right . Crappy customers are part of customer service anywhere .

The entire restaurant industry needs to be more regulated to the point where food tampering becomes a felony/major criminal offense . And since alot of food service is done by kids they must be taught the LEGAL and MEDICAL consequences of stunts like this .

My response to getting the media involved is that Dominos could have contacted the people who ordered the tainted food via their computerized POS system and worked that way.

Remember the Wendy's "finger in the chili" story? That really hurt Wendy's as a national brand even though it happened in one store and it was fake anyway.

Today's media is irresponsible and reckless. Regardless of your PERSONAL feelings of Domino's, the national brand does not need a PR black eye because of an isolated incident.

But this stuff didn't happen all the time. It was very rare. And it never happened to random customers. Looking back, that's not a good enough excuse for what happened (which, again, was very rare), but it took an exceptionally rude customer to get something a little extra on their pie.

And boy, I am sure sad for Domino's as a brand. If I could get them to stop robocalling me with "deals" I might be more sympathetic. But probably not. Bad publicity like this is EARNED and deserved.

@Hyman Decent: He still has about a 25% interest in it. We were never allowed to get Domino's pizza growing up because my mom didn't agree with Tom Monahan's politics. When he sold it, we still weren't allowed to get Domino's because Tom Monahan would still profit from it and, consequently, some organizations my mother didn't agree with would profit as well.

But I not once ever recalled being told "Don't put boogers in peoples' food." Obviously it would seem that people shouldn't have to be told this. And with some people it probably wouldn't matter if you told them anyway.

But, these two seemed borderline really. Yeah it was gross. But in a way, it almost seemed like the dude thought he was flirting with the line, not crossing it. He thought he was being silly and cute. I would bet, that if he had been trained with regards to the seriousness of food tampering, if he was aware of how much trouble it could get him, how humiliated he would be, I bet he wouldn't have done those things.

So, perhaps the fast food companies need to institute some sort of 'Food Tampering, don't do it moron' video/handout/etc. Like I said, it won't stop everyone, but it might stop borderliners like this guy.

What I do remember is this... after it made the news, Hardee's became the most sanitary place in town.

This is why I rarely eat out. I am a paranoid germ freak.... I used to work in fast food (many years ago) and I know we were pretty lax in hygiene, never used a dish sponge on my butt though!

As for this happening and regarding the disease transmission... Anything done prior to cook is very unlikely to survive a 5-6 minute cook at 470 degrees, so really get beyond that... I am not justifying this action at all, just saying this is absurdly over the top you drama queens.

Our average delivery time is 15-18 minutes at my store. I get to the door with pizzas so hot they burn my hand. I have a variable amount of tips night in/out. I have friends in other companies that will not even fight with the fact we provide the fastest delivery in town. That being said, I can COUNT the # of deliveries that do 15% tips on one hand. Anymore I'm pretty settled with a $1 tip and I'm content w/ this entirely. There are a few customers who tip quite generously and I can promise you they get their food VERY quickly EVERY time. There are also customers, that I have their addresses memorized that can straight up go to hell. When you order $50 of food and give me $0.22 as a "tip" to turn around and in the last 1-2 hours of business order another $25 worth of food and make me count out the $0.27 in change back to you claiming you cannot afford to spare any change... Come on this is insulting. It was also icy roads, night, very cold, and she didn't have any light on for me to see for getting to her door safely OR count the money. First you order $75 worth of food and tip $0.22, then you lie the 2nd time being too drugged up to realize it is the SAME driver... Coincidence, this person lives in the "ghetto" of my town and for lack of better term, a burnout. I hate her, her food gets there late every time, I pound of her door late at night to piss her off, and I don't care. I order pizza 4-5 times a week from various places and the service generally is mediocre, I feel I provide a MUCH better experience at the door to get like no tipped, but it does balance out so I keep going.

As for the guy who said he didn't ever feel it was worth while to remember who tipped poorly or whatever, I can't imagine you did very well in tips ever. I remember my good customers and put a lot of extra effort into their deliveries and even the unknowns or the people who tip a pretty standard $1 amount. The people who do not tip I have no desire to push to get them their food quickly. These people also tend to be the most rude people I've ever dealt with and I've worked retail and food service...

I've given lousy tips for cold food and lousy service and I never return to that restaurant. I've even added chains of restaurants to my personal blacklist for this. Applebee's earned a spot on my blacklist for not only completely ignoring my complaint e-mail sent to them via the corporate website but failing to return my calls placed to the restaurant in question AND adding me to their coupon mailing list! At no point did I acknowledge I wanted their coupons sent to my inbox, plus why would I want coupons for your damn restaurant when I was unhappy with my previous visit?

All I did was send an e-mail detailing the piss-poor service, terrible food, and the waitress' rude demeanor. All I asked was that they acknowledge they received my complaint and assure me the staff would receive a stern talking-to.

For those wondering, I went in on a Tuesday evening, ordered a rib and chicken strip basket with a Samuel Adams. My only request was that my beer be served with my dinner. This prompted the rude attitude by my server and resulted in me waiting nearly 90 minutes for my cold dinner and warm beer to be served. Not only that, but my fries were soaked in grease!

After choking down what I could I paid the bill and left without placing a tip on the table. I would have asked to speak to a manager right then and there, but considering it took me 90 minutes to get my food I could only imagine how long waiting for a manager would have taken.

Is it really too much to ask that I receive my beverage with my food? I hate getting my drink after I order because I either drink it before the food arrives or its warm when the food arrives. In the case above, it really didn't make a difference. These places do give you complimentary water, so the chances of me dying of thirst before my order is served are slim.

I'm not an asshole when it comes to tipping. Just give me hot food in a reasonable time frame while treating me like a human being and you'll get a tip. If there are circumstances that prevent me from getting my food in a reasonable time frame, let me know before I place my order if you can. If not, let me know as soon as you can and give me the option of canceling my order if I so choose.

Last time I checked that was basic customer service. Then again, if we customers received basic service sites like this wouldn't exist.

Then again, they DID record themselves doing this stuff, so some leniency has to be shown. Without these videos, how would we know they tampered with the food or used sponges as *shudders* toilet paper before using them on the dishes.

On second thought, screw leniency. Throw the book at them, retrieve the book, and throw it at them again. Then proceed to beat them senseless with the book. This is people's food we're talking about. Granted, one can survive without fast food, but that does not excuse behavior like this.

Unfortunately, we were that 1/10 store while the other 9/10 would screw customers and be completely oblivious to the products/services they were selling.

The 40 year old who works for me is quite happy in his job. The teenager I have working for me on Saturday night is quite happy as he gets his paycheck every two weeks that shows what happens when he works on a Saturday night. And he'd rather be working for me than babysitting his younger siblings.

So, please, get your "facts" straight, not all of us in the food industry are sneezing on food, putting food up our noses or wiping our butts with sponges and then washing the dishes. And not all of us are miserable where we work. I guarantee that my staff are probably happier in their work than some of our customers.

I hope Karma comes back and lets these white trash hicks have both barrels to the face! YES, I'M PISSED!

You know what the more I think about it the more I want poisoning food like this to covered under the Patriot Act for this is how a real terrorist could spread toxic agents .

Actually what everybody needs to do with the state and local representatives is request that there should be CRIMINAL LAWS against this type of food sabatoge/poisoning/vandalism . The problem is that these problems only show up as simple code violations but if there were CRIMINAL penalties vs a citation there might be much less .

AGAIN if you hate this type of work or hate and disrespect the customers who are paying the bills that pay you then leave . Don't do food or customer service type work when in reality you are dis-service to the public at large .

I've never worked in the food industry (thankfully) but from the comments, it seems that this sort of food "tainting" happens to everyone -- nice or rude. Like lots of other people have said in the comments, you "know" that this is going on but you try not to think about it.

The account is now closed. I bet someone in NC is crapping their pants about now.. I'm half tempted to call them and ask if Kristi is in.. ROFL.

It never crossed my mind to tamper with someone's food in retaliation. In fact, I'm not sure how that would have worked logistically...I'd have to hold one hell of a grudge to remember who screwed me the last time they ordered, and wait several days/weeks for them to order again.

In an 8-hour shift, however many times I was screwed on tips, I'd make it back with good tippers. And I never let the bad tips get to me.

Then again, us Oregon folk, maybe we're just a bit too tame. (Haha.)

Amy.. I FOUND IT! Dominos Pizza, Conover NC. How did I find it? I used part of your intel. Googled for lilangel6979, found the myYearbook for that email, looked at the city.. Theres a Jack in the box across from this dominos. Searched yellowpages.com for it, found it at 509 10th St NW, Conover NC. Jack in the Box is at 510 10th st NW. I'm not sure how to get in contact with the folks at dominos corporate.. but, I'm sure they're reading our blog by now.

I will say that as a driver for Pizza Hut, I NEVER once screwed with people's food. However, I ALMOST did once or twice. There were a few customers that were habitual non-tippers, even going so far as to "tip" $.10 and find it funny. In addition, they had a tendency to call and complain about meaningless things to get free food, which of course was another delivery with no tip. Of course they had a BMW in the driveway. I never messed with their food, but had I done so, I would have felt 0 remorse.

Personally, my hourly rate was $4.75. If you think thats sufficient, then you, sir, *deleted*. I worked myself though college, and it was tough. There were times I wasn't sure if I was doing better than breaking even delivering pizzas between high gas prices, car repairs, oil, tires, etc. A little butt-jam on an asshole's third delivery of the night would have brightened my day a little.

P.S. Food gets dropped on the floor, and food on the floor gets picked up and sent to people. Its a fact of life, live with it. The ironic thing is that it's actually the customer's fault. If we don't pick up the food off the floor and deliver it, you call and bitch about it being late and we have to give you a credit, plus we get to lose the money on the dropped food. If we send it, you never know the difference and are happy and don't complain. So, y'know, look at yourselves sometimes as being the reason these kinds of things happen, not just the "stupid worthless people there who can't make a normal living like me."

@Sam Wille: This is where something is very wrong in food service. It really isn't funny to spit in someone's food. Or do any of this. If this happens and someone contracts something like Hepatitis from these idiotic antics, I hope they can make a legal precedent in how harshly these kinds of people are and should be dealt with. Communicable diseases with no cure aren't funny.

@Outrun1986: It's not even a barrier at Subway. It still happens. Some guy actually stopped to scratch his crotch part way through the sandwich making and continued right on. I was pretty shocked and he started cussing me out when I said I didn't want the sandwich any more.

@invisiblenemies: I worked in a kitchen for a year and a half and not once did anything like this happen, ever. Even for some real d-bags who sent the food back multiple times to piss off the chef. We had some level of civility, courtesy, and class.

Oh I'm sure. Multiple counts of attempted poisoning? conspiracy to poison? Not to mention getting fired, having your face and name plastered across the headlines of major blogs and newspapers.

I worked at multiple fast food places while in high school and periods in college. My experience is the opposite of yours. My managers, coworkers, and when I was a manager, took food integrity very seriously. If we dropped something it got thrown out. Every time you left the food preparation zone and came back, you washed your hands.

I never once saw a person or heard from anybody else of someone tampering with the food. The food industry is a terrible place to work and most people are trustworthy and of good character. Don't let the bad apples allow you to assume the next fast food worker that is serving you is scum.

So that's why their food tastes like crap..

None of that means that anyone has the right to spit in my food. We had plenty of rude customers who treated us like crap -- but myself, my managers, and my co-workers all agreed that messing with someone's food is not only disgusting, but totally bad ju-ju.

Just because you pay extra money, means the people like you enough they wont piss in your food? That's bullshit and some people have morals, not these people though.

But its probably the least riskiest at Subway, since they are making it right in front of you and pulling most ingredients out of sealed plastic bags. If they wanted to sneeze in the lettuce and someone walked in while they were doing it (provided this wasn't a mall location where people are constantly about) they would likely get in big trouble for it. They don't make everything in the back room like other restaurants.

I don't go out to eat a lot and basically your risking it wherever you eat, doesn't matter what chain it is and if I worried about stuff like this constantly I would probably end up in the mad house.

Then again, what food won't make you sick these days?

Peanut products? Mad cow beef? Pistachios? Baby Spinach?

There is a Dominos behind my apartment, I haven't ordered from them for a long time, and now I am afraid to ever order from them again.

I think I would fire them......with a FLAME-THROWER!!!

On a personal note I hate Dominoes because the high honcho in the chain is a douche bag.

About the only thing I did was splash a little jalapeno juice on a pie for a customer that was way, way over the top on the phone. He cursed out the 16yo girl taking the orders and drove her to tears.

I order my pizzas from Round Table now and we don't do delivery. Only carry out where we can watch them make and bake.

One reason why I barely eat out anymore. I would rather cook my own meal at home where I know I wont die or pick up some disease or some tasty food poisoning!

Hopefully these two are fired and fines or sent to prison.

You people who only tip the pizza guy like a buck (or worse, don't tip at all) have almost certainly eat stuff you really don't want to think about too much. And there's no way to stop it, since everyone knows your address by now.

I haven't watched the video, but I can imagine those guys knew who was getting that pizza.
