This has hit most of the news aggregators and even the gossip sites have picked it up. These guys are likely toast in the job search if anyone interviewing them has heard of the internet.
This is wonderful. Now if we could only be as efficient with actual work.

Man, it makes me angry to think they were messing with some of the most perfect food in the universe and now it's making me feel slightly nauseous when I think about.

@Jabberkaty: I would say the only way to combat this is to find a good place, and it doesn't matter whether it's local or a chain. Chain places can be spotlessly clean just like local mom and pop places can be despicable. But if the people care about their work, you probably won't get these kinds of shenanigans. Bad seeds get thrown out quickly at places that value quality.

I recall reading somewhere that there is a computer program which can figure out where a still picture was taken, and as more photos are geo-tagged, it's getting better and better. This could come in handy for things like this.

Every camera has the ability. Well, sort-of.
My camera is pretty advanced - the Canon 40D, but it doesn't inherently geotag photos.
What I do is take a GPSr with me whenever I take pictures (I keep it with my camera gear) and when I get home, I upload the track log to the computer, and use a program called GEOSETTER (It's free!) which takes the DATE/TIME stamp of the picture, finds the same date/time in your gps log, and uses that data to Geo-tag the pictures.
The only caveat is that you have to make sure your camera is set to the exact time the GPSr is set for (which is set automatically using the satellite data)
So, pictures taken with ANY camera can be geotagged, as long as you keep a GPSr with you.

@theblackdog: No, this program can take ANY photo, and using photos off the internet/it's database that ARE geotagged, figure out where the un-geotagged photo was taken.

there's certainly a niche - most skip tracers haven't embraced the full potential of the tubes yet.

I have a question. I know that the Domino's is independently owned by a franchisee. I don't know much about franchising, but is there a provision on Domino's part that would allow them to revoke the franchise if they do something like this. This is going to end up hurting the national brand. If the local media pick up on it there in NC, it could close the local franchise.

@spoco: I'm sure there is a provision, but can you really blame a franchisee for the immature and idiotic actions of 2 bored employees? I think the manager of the store should face some disciplinary action for sitting on her butt reading the paper while her employees are dicking around in the front of the store.
While yes, this can hurt the national brand, I think Domino's Corporate responded quickly and rationally with the situation. Hopefully the public can see that the actions of 2 employees are an isolated incident.

Several years ago, we were driving down Stockton Hill Road in Kingman, AZ. The Domino's delivery man was busily picking his nose. Big time! We called the store about it and they acted as if we made it up. Besides this, the owner of Domino's has political viewpoints that don't coincide with ours. We don't eat their food, ever.

I don't care how fast or completely Domino's responded. This is just high dollar damage control.
An appropriate follow up would inform all company owned and franchised locations that any adulteration of product would result in instant termination and that the company would assist in prosecution of the person(s) responsible. Further, this should be added to the standard franchise agreement as a cause for termination.
This particular store needs to be nailed shut. I can't believe that anyone would ever trust it again.This will greatly damage the Domino's brand,no matter what spin the PR department puts on it.

@m2ky2fo: They're getting fired for their actions, so I think they've gotten the point, and the local fast-food community will most certainly quickly know about this. The papers will probably carry the item if they think it's important enough.

@crunchberries: There seems to be some confusion here. I don't work for Dominos. I'm the boyfriend of Amy, who, along with whyerhead, found out where the franchise in question was located.
I did, however, send that information along to Tim McIntyre, who does work for them.
Kudos to the people who figured this out. Shame on Domino's for not punishing the owner in some form. And those idiots need to be charged with something for that crap. That wasn't fake like they claim. There are charges pertaining to tampering with food sold to the public. This kind of lax treatment of the subject is just the kind of thing that will lower consumer trust and hurts sales.
I say use this as an example to make a federal case out of food tampering . Tampering with the food supply or distribution ie restaurants should be considered an act of terror and covered under the Patriot Act .
I also say use this as an example of what not to do . They need a lecture from Chef Ramsey or something along with jail time . Purposely tampering with food like this should be considered a crime and not a health code violation .
Half the reason these kids pull this crap is that they don't realize the gravity of the situation . Make it a CRIMINAL offense and they will .

I'd doubt the veracity of the claims in Kristy Kristy's video, because even if the cheese & pepper was a prank the intentional SNEEZE on food was still done on the food prep surface (which should have IMMEDIATELY been disinfected), but wasn't.
On top of that they showed the food being packaged and placed with other food that WAS to be delivered.
AND FINALLY there was the a$$-sponge on the pan & in the cleaning sinks.

@Coop: I'm pretty sure the salmonella and e. coli outbreaks we hear about are due to contamination from animal waste on the farms and in processing plants, and not from food prep employees.

I don't see how this could have affected the taste of their food, since it is already off the charts disgusting.
In 1980 or 1981 I worked for Domnio's in their management training program, before deciding that maybe college was for me. I worked in Domino's corporate stores and franchise stores. Corporate stressed cleanliness and fresh food. You could argue that they do not have the most tasty pizza, but back then they were fanatical about cleanliness and food quality. I saw regional managers doing inspections and checking the underside of office chairs. If you placed the sauce spoon wrong, you would lose points. All the stores I was in were incredibly clean compared to other restaurants I have worked in. I would assume they have not changed that philosophy much. There are always morons working in the restaurant field, but I hope this does not damage Domino's reputation. They certainly cleaned this up, and I bet some actions filter through to all stores.
Back then, franchisee contracts gave Domino's a lot of control over the store. You had to follow all their rules. Franchisee owners did not have a lot of freedom to stray outside of those rules, if any. I am sure that remains the same, and action will indeed be taken.

i had guessed it was a fake from beginning just because they store was too clean. figured it was after hours or before hours goofing around. I've worked in pizza shops before and the only time they are that clean and organized is when they are not open.

I asked the state about what department would inspect this restaurant, and this is the reply:
The local health department has responded to this issue. The restaurant voluntarily closed while equipment could be cleaned and sanitized and all known food that the individuals could have contaminated was disposed. I also understand that local authorities may pursue criminal charges against these individuals. Thank you.

Somehow I'm not surprised these kids didn't even give a microsecond to think of the indelible stains on their résumés this kind of tomfoolery would cause. It may be just have been a high school job, but this kind of thoughtless behavior on the job will come back to haunt them later.
@katinka: You may be right. They sure acted like some high-schoolers (severely common-sense-deprived ones, anyway). Whatever the age, that's one painful life lesson to learn in this era when common sense isn't so common anymore.

Domino's may be kind of blah pizza, but this response is amazing.
I've had three different people send me the original Consumerist post via email this morning and at least four or five of my Facebook friends have posted the clip as well. All followed with comments about how disgusting Domino's was in the first place, and how people will now never, ever, ever eat from there again. Could this be the tale of two morons who brought down a company with their antics?

@Bill Moffatt: No I don't think it's isolated to Dominos and most are well aware of the stories . That's why there was such a quick and vigorous reaction .
But that's part of the problem : the cavalier attitude twards these percieved pranks as accepted . They should be isolated and not seen as ' funny ' . People who perpatrate these percieved pranks need to be looked at as CRIMINALS and not as jokesters . Part of the reason for the non criminal treatment many of these pranksters get is that in many cases it's not a CRIME : it's just considered an unhealthy disgusting deed . But it is a CRIME .

I saw in the news where some public hair sandwich makers are looking at a year for conspiracy to alter food . Is that the best the system can do now . Why can't they ad charges like reckless endangerment ,assault,attempted assault,poisoning etc . I want to see federal laws against food tampering , make it a terrorist act under the Patriot Act and Homeland Security . What is the difference between these ' pranksters ' that sabotage food and terrorist that denonates a bomb . In both cases they don't want to directly confront their victims . It's quite cowardly actually .
I emailed Dominos at their corporate headquarters. While I'm sure that they've received to many comments to reply to me personally, I want them to know just how strongly I feel about this. I SUFFERED from very severe food poisoning, and will never view eating out or eating food prepared by others in quite the same way again. Here's what's bothering me right now. Perez \"moronic\" Hilton posts the video on his site 24 hours after Consumerist has a response from Tim McIntyre and its being taken care of yet he doesn't post the update. It's sad to say his site gets 1 million more hits a day then the Consumerist but someone needs to correct his stuff.

Guys, apparently consumerist only contacted a regional VP in charge of that specific Dominos's pizza store. The head office does not have a clue this incident happened nor provided any public apology concerning to this matter. Hearing from internet users like us, the regional VP actually pulled the video from the youtube himself to keep the head corporate in the dark. He obtained the video's login information before firing the now, ex-employees.
