For me this review fell short on facts. I use these (though would never pay $28 for 8, I get them for .99 each at a local thrift) primarily for cleaning liquid spills out of my carpets when something gets knocked over. For this purpose they are quite good.

I would have liked to have seen an analysis of the absorptive power of these versus sponges and towels; I believe they would vastly exceed a sponge in this area. Also, as previously posted, I would have liked an extended wear test.

I have two of these that I have had in active duty for 12 years and though they are certainly worn, they still work great for my purposes.

I liked the snarkiness as it added some spice but overall the review was quite shallow.

I've got knock-off ShamWows. I've had them for years now. They are awesome! They are especially good for spills on the carpet because they soak up liquid out of the carpet and the pad. They also barely drip at all, unlike towels or sponges when saturated. I had a birth tub that leaked a little when I gave birth to my second child; those shammie things saved my kitchen by soaking up the water before it spread. My husband was able to wring them out in the sink and then put them right back in place to soak up more water. I never even knew that there was a small leak until after my daughter was born. Are they worth $28? I don't think so. Find them on sale with a coupon in your local store. DON'T order them online or off the infomercial. Who wants to pay shipping??

Damn the reply is not working again. Wait where is is the bad part Mad Dog Mcree and Shortbus? Where is the diluting of essential Consumer Reports values? Are they taking money for endorsement? No. Are they using sloppy science? No. Are they even charging you to watch this? No. Where in the Consumer Reports mentality is it verboten to be humorous about their findings? Do you miss the back page of the magazine every month where they poke fun at bad products? They do so in a humorous manner as well. I's agree with Trai but even my father found it funny.

This is clearly a product that does not take itself very seriously. I'm a subscriber as well and as much as the reports are useful in my buying decisions, I'm not opposed to humor with my science. The report did show that only one of shamwow's claims did in fact hold water, what was the better buy, and did it in an enjoyable easy to understand way. I'd understand if they made their riding mower section into a youtube variety show but that is all the attention the shamwow required.

This video wasn't that impressive or useful. So what if it isn't scientifically correct about how much liquid it can hold. I wouldn't be using it to carry water across my kitchen to a pot on the stove.

I want to know if it is actually good at picking up an asstastic amount of spilled liquid. I'd prefer to use one of these instead of a whole roll of paper towels. Then I can use 1 to get the droplets that are left behind.

Also - those are the cheapest sponges around, who even uses them they are worthless.

Sorry, enjoyable snark aside I expect more in depth analysis from consumer reports.

The only small part of that video that was worthy of being a CR report was the determination that it holds 10x it's weight & the sponges do so also.
However, in a real CR report they would have noted that the sponges drip at 10x and if the shamwow does or doesn't. They would have also had an analysis of how much of the maximum capacity the shamwow needed to be at before it started leaving "small droplets".
Also, doing some sort of extended wear testing would be useful, they do it for paint and other stuff.

Great video, lousy CR report. I hope they haven't lowered their report standards since my subscription lapsed, it has been a couple three years.
