]]>Why the ban on cats though? I used to work in an office where I could bring Neko in during the summer months (she was a little kitten then), and she would just hang out on my desk, or play with a ball of paper. I still take her to the pet shops, and the people at the drugstore near my place know us well. Mind you, I won't take her there when it's busy...this would just stress her out.
Also, I've friended all of you who said "why can people bring kids everywhere, but I can't bring my quiet dog" or something to that effect.

]]>I have an open door policy for dogs. Office Staff bring their dogs to work. Customers bring their dogs in while shopping.
I do have a rule. No purse dogs. And no cats.
Why not? I have office staff (usually women) working late and if they are more comfortable (read feeling safer) driving home with their Pit Bull or Poodle in the car then why not? Besides, with after hour Vet appointments sometimes hard to get the staff need to be able to schedule Vet appointments during business hours.
Remember the rule. No purse dogs. And no cats.

]]>If another customer posted that sign it should be taken down immediately. If it was a USPS worker that put it up I'd expect disciplinary action against that worker.
I'm not condoning people who violate the policies like this by bringing their pets inside but the method is not acceptable. "Jeffrey" could easily file a complaint with the USPS office of the Inspector General and then nobody would be happy - especially the person who put up the sign or didn't take it down in a timely manner.
How they deal with all customers - the good ones and the bad ones - reflects directly on them and, in this case, everyone in the US since this is the USPS.

]]>As for the comment with read in quotes, it was in response to my comment that there was no braille. Pecan's reply was that if someone is blind, how would they know there is a sign there to read the braille on. It's like putting an message on your phone number saying "please call this number if you are deaf to use TDD". Chances are the person who will be using the TDD machine won't be able to hear the message.
]]>Incidentally, I used to bring my Maltese (a very sweet, quiet, low-key little pooch) with me a lot of places, but never anyplace food was sold or served, and I always made sure it was OK first. Our current dog, a German shepherd, stays at home, though :)

]]>I can understand restaurants and places serving food not wanting dogs but letting your minimum wage help "enforce the rules" and piss off customers is not in your best interests business wise.
I have even babysat pooches while their wealthy owners picked up and looked at items when I worked in an Antique store.
Blanket rules are just stupid. How about holding people responsible for their actions? If your dog chews or pees on something thats one thing. But blanket rules rarely benefit anyone. One dog pisses on or chews on something so your going to cram a stupid rule down on everyone except the blind?

Me too, purse dogs are crazy popular in Florida you see them everywhere including the grocery store which really crosses the line. I'm with MonkeyButt, if I can't bring my 70 lb dog you can't bring your 7 lb dog.
We recently were out and about with our dog and I wanted Mr. Sam to take a look at a couch in Pottery Barn, I made him go in and sit on the couch and I told him my thoughts from outside the door. I was surprised when the PB employee told me I could bring my big shedding dog into the store. We did eventually, not that day, buy that couch.
