I prefer not to kid myself into thinking that I'm all high and mighty by shopping at a more "Consumerist-friendly" store. Why spend more money on the same exact items elsewhere? Those savings add up to a substantial amount year after year.

It might massage your ego, but you probably won't hurt Wal-Mart's bottom line by refusing to shop there anymore.

Question - "Why do people *still* shop at Wal-Mart?"

Answer - While I cannot speak for anyone other than myself and my family, I continue to be a patron at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club for a number of reasons, many of which will likely upset you.

a) Overall cheaper prices on the products and services I require
b) Location is close to home, especially now that I moved to the next town over
c) Product quality, despite what I see plastered online, is better than sub-par. Overall, I'm quite pleased

For years I've gotten diapers, wipes, and baby formula at Sam's to save on the expense of raising my two children. Whenever I've needed 'food in bulk' I've gone to Sam's for the pratical purpose it provides - meals overall on the time extended out over a period of time. My primary staple items like milk and juice can be purchased here at a discount as well. On my way out, on average I can save $.10 - $.15 a gallon on gas so I generally opt to fill up. I don't make special trips there, I'm already going.

Wal-Mart fills the void for everything else. Honestly, I don't see myself going anywhere else. I respect the opinion you are free to express, however.

I think it's just a typo'd sign. The wording is awkward - "Was $1. Now for $2" Usually when stores use the word "for" they are using it when talking about several items for a certain price, i.e. "3 for $2." When they are talking about a single item, they just state the price unless there's a verb preceding it in a sentence somewhere, i.e. "get this shirt for $2". The never put "For $X" all by itself.

My guess it was supposed to be something like "Was $1. Now 3 for $2", and for whatever reason the 3 was never printed. After all, why in the world would a store want to advertise that the prices have gone up, especially a store that focuses on the discounts it offers?

Honestly I think it is a generational thing. My parents are much more "loyal customers" but you have to earn my business. Price doesnt always win either. I recognize exceptional service. But considering Walmart has the lowest prices, is the most convenient, and has the most diverse products, its hard to look any further.
