Tell me again why people who already purchase Broadband (aka high-speed internet) use FAX to send documents instead of a Fax relay?

Can any lawyer out there confirm for me that a signed document that is scanned and sent digitally via an internet fax relay (e.g. it still arrives at the analog fax machine of the intended recipient) is equivalent to a signed document that is scanned and sent from an analog fax machine directly?

And if so, that eliminates the only difference I can fathom for using FAX over sending digital copies of everything. And even if its not legally equivalent, unless you're faxing legal contracts, this shouldn't matter.

The same goes for receiving faxes. Sign up for any of a number of fax relay services that gives you a "fax number" on the internet where you can receive and download digital copies of all your faxes via your broadband connection without having to actually OWN a fax machine.

Seriously people, this is like complaining that the S-Video out on your DVD or blu-ray player gives lousy signal input to your VCR. Sure, its something you can technically do, but WHY?

I've never had a problem with my Brother 3-in-1 faxing on Vonage. Having just had a child with some pregnancy complications, I was sending paperwork to my FSA folks pretty much weekly. And it's on a Comcast line, where yesterday people were saying they had trouble with that too; I'm not one to defend Comcrap EVER, just find it curious that two days in a row the C has posted "bad" articles concerning Vonage/Comcast that I've never experienced...

faxing with vonage sucks.

to get anywhere NEAR semi-not-reliable faxes I had to set the modem to 9600, and jack up the B/W usage for the vonage line. Then stand on my head and pray to the silicon lord.
