@punkrawka: I agree with you a bit, but this year is particularly bad in the selection. Of that list, I think even the Visitor could stand to be on it. Benjamin Button, frankly, wasn't that good outside of the effects in my opinion. It was a good movie, but not a great movie.

I'm pretty sure The Dark Knight is not in theaters anymore considering it is already out on DVD.
The only one I'm really interested in seeing in the theater is Slumdog Millionare (which I probably will tonight).
I agree w/ TVarmy, The Vistor could easily be on that list; at least Richard Jenkins got a best actor nomination for it... it's major problem is that it came out early in the year, the Oscars always seems to nominate the films that come out during \"Oscar Season.\"
The Sharp HDTV deal is HORRIBLE.
I think I got the same model, or equivalent, for $398.xx at Walmart about a month ago. You can easily find equivalent TVs for $450 or lower, without a discount.
A lot of Tv companies are stripping down HDTVs of features, slapping their name on it, and selling it as a cheap \"name brand\" Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, and/or Samsung. The cheap models look like sh**n compared to better models. Bottom line, don't cheat yourself to save a couple bucks.

@BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!: That's why they advertise the size and that it's a plasma, hoping you won't notice that it's not even capable of 1080i, let alone 1080p. If you can search, it's easy to find a Panasonic 46\" 1080p unit for just over $1,000 USD, and a 50\" for just over $1,200. While I understand a 50\" is a good size for a TV, not getting 1080x and still paying over $800 is a rip-off, not a deal.
@BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!: You always have to be really careful in comparing model numbers at WalMart; what appears to be the \"same\" xx-inch TV can have a specific WalMart model number and then you have to dig deep into the specs to see what's been left out.

Though it isn't explicit, I think the implication of the AMC deal is that all 5 movies must be watched in one visit. I might be wrong though.

@KarateMedia: Near impossible or no, that's what they do. They ran the same promotion last year, I think the screenings start around 9 or 10am, and run through the evening, with breaks for lunch and dinner, if I recall correctly.
@billsquared: Why do you need lunch and dinner when you get a free Large popcorn with unlimited refills. Bring a huge bottle of water and you'll be full after one!

Actually, when I did this last year, I did skip out on one film to get late lunch at a diner nearby.

The Best Picture Showcase takes place the day before the Oscar ceremony, and they show all five films back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back, although you can come and go as you please. I know this is at least the third year they've done this, and in the past they've also given you free refills on popcorn and drinks at the concession stand. The theatre I go to also does in-between-movie Oscar trivia for prizes like posters or t-shirts. I even won a Juno hamburger phone last year.

The AMC deal is nice for people who live on one of the coasts where ticket prices are sky high, but in Minnesota my local AMC is showing all of these movies at 5 bucks a pop, so $30 for all of them is $5 too much.
@teapot37: This is what I was worried about, I really, really want to see Frost/Nixon, Milk and Slumdog, and my girlfriend wants to see Benjamin Button & The Reader. I was hoping it was like, I could spend the weekend or 5 days in a row there. 10 hours does not equal a great time.
@Ben King: I had a fun time with it last year, though I did skip one film (atonement). It started early (9:30 am? not sure) and ended late (midnight) with just about 10 minutes between the movies. Free popcorn refills, no free drinks. But if you're interested in watching movies all day, it's a lot of fun. The theater staff had it well-organized, and the audience was serious (no talking on cellphones) but jovial. Wish I had time to do it again this year!
Augh, the Timbuk2 deal's sold out. Although I wonder if the prices on items such as this include the 20% off...
AMC deal...that's pretty good considering there are only five nominees.
I don't get it - the AMC page linked still (since I forst clicked through yesterday) says \"Check back for participating theaters.\" There's no link to purchase tickets.

@ryan89: Honestly, Dark Knight as a movie was not all that great. Heath Ledger did a very good job, but.. the movie in and of itself had many faults.
I'd go for the deal but I've already seen 2 of the movies involved :-/
