@IrvCrapper: Well, your goal to get the consumerist to stop posting buy.com deals isn't working as they keep posting them. And why shouldn't they? There's been no evidence of them being total screwups presented. So in the big picture, it's still a deal.

SteveDave has a point about not being able to please everyone all of the time. Even if Buy.com had the most deplorable customer service in the world, don't you think you could do more to create awareness of the situation rather than posting in comment threads in response to the daily posted deals? Like I said, start your own website or write an article/expose on buy.com customer service. That's assuming there's something to write about.

This whole discussion is out of place and needs to end.
So no more from me, I've made my point.

Alkalines are kind of a bad deal compared to rechargables, unless you are in a hurry or it's a really obscure size. They're bad for the environment, too.

AAAs are teetering on the edge of that category. Remotes and calculators tend to take them, but the small devices that used to insist on them are now starting to switch to integrated lithium ion batteries. For that price, I guess it could be the last pack you buy to support your aging gadgets.

Still, let's see some deals on rechargeable and a good charger. They're only convenient (and thus used) when you have a bunch and a big charger that works well to keep them ready. And rechargables tend to carry more life on a full charge than batteries from the supermarket, which is a plus for things like flash digital photography.

Your issue in your words is with the Consumerist posting deals offered by buy.com. You're issue is with the Consumerist and not it's users. I don't think the public shaming technique is working.

No. I don't think one or two mentions is adequate. That seems arbitrary to me.

My goal here isn't to complain about Buy.Com as much as it is to get Consumerist to stop featuring Buy.Com "deals." Frankly, I don't think posting "deals" is consistent with the mission of the site. Moreover, I think that promoting the ethic of the deal exacerbates many of the problems that this sites seeks to remedy.

Whereas some may have had good experiences, the point of this forum isn't necessarily to highlight good performance, but to inform others about bad performance. So, if Buy.Com has bad customer service, but you received your deal without a hitch, that still means Buy.Com has bad customer service.

By now, hundreds of people have read through the comments on this post. I have no reason to believe that the same people reading these comments read the comments attached to the last "Morning Deals." Inasmuch as this is true, I stand to accomplish more each time I post my opinion and explain my experiences with this bad vendor. That is why I continue to post.

Thanks for your inquiry. Continued thanks to those who help me dominate the conversation threads following the "Morning Deals" with discussions of Buy.Com's non-existent "customer service."

If you've made it you personal mission in life to warn everyone how awful they are you should probably start you're own website. There's no reason to keep mentioning it on Consumerist. Unless you've got an outstanding issue with them you should just get over it. If you do have an outstanding issue, then maybe you should take appropriate action(EECB?) instead of complaining in every morning deals that has something from buy.com.

I don't see how they've been bashed.

I would see it as bashing if noting their history wasn't warranted, but inasmuch as they've never done anything to remedy or challenge my complaints, they themselves appear to agree with me.

I used chargeback twice with my Discover Card. Once when they sent me the wrong thing. Again, when they made an unauthorized charge. Evidently, they never responded to Discover's inquiries. Silence is assent.

Actually I have had a problem with them as well. About 2 months ago on ebay I got a pair of gaming headphones from them. After paying my money was refunded with no explination, when I contacted Paypal to ask what happened stating "bidding and buying something on your site is expressed as a contract, and I doubt the same would fly if this situation had been reversed with me saying I would not pay and didnt want it anymore" only to have them appologise and tell me to contact buy.com (the seller). Buy didnt tell me anything, I got an automated response followed by a "we no longer have it in stock" email even when they claimed to have 3000+ in stock when I bought mine. I dont know if this is the norm with Buy, but I dont think I will be buying from them any time soon.
