I drink five or six cans a day, at least. Recently I started buying the caffeine-free stuff in addition to the regular, so now it's one or two caffeinated a day and the rest caffeine-free -- fewer jitters that way but I still get my fix. As for the imminent aspartame-related cancer, well, I smoke anyway, so whatever.</p><p>I won't dispute that it's possible to develop an unhealthy relationship with food, of course, but I wonder if they would've come to the same conclusion if she didn't claim she was abusing sugar to deal with her disability. If she had psychological trauma in her past that led her to overeat, would that carry the same weight? How about clinical depression or anxiety disorder? I did it a couple of years ago.  Oh yeah, you may think \"Just stop drinking them!  What's the big deal?\"  but it's not quite that easy.</p><p>For about two weeks, at random intervals, I'd get these \"You know what would be REALLY GOOD right now?  A Dr Pepper!  Oh yeah!\" feelings.  And it's just one, so what's the harm?  Next thing you know, you're back to sucking down 3 or 4 a day.</p><p>I finally had to deliberately leave change and $1 bills at home so I wouldn't be able to use the machines at work.  Once I did that, then I could get over that two-week hump.  Then you've got momentum on your side.  \"Do you really want to break your streak?\"</p><p>I lost 10 pounds almost immediately. After two or three weeks, I was able to hold off. My problem is that almost all mixed drinks I go after (rum, bourbon, etc) involve Coke/soda. Eventually, when I started a new fitness program, I decided to cut out both the Coke AND the alcohol, and I survived six weeks or so. Sounds like something out of a movie but sadly its not.
