i end up tracking a lto of packages and it's crazy to see what some of these UPS drivers put in that area. i've seen all sorts of racial comments as well as "SLUT" and "BITCH" several times. but basically, you just report it to UPS and they report it to the drivers supervisor.

Because we all know UPS and other delivery drivers are ALL HIGHLY trained professionals who go through years and years of school and training to do what they do. There's no way they could be rude, discourteous, or discriminatory!

Both companies have been pretty good about leaving a door hanger when they miss a delivery though, and you can circle an option to have them leave it in a certain place. They've also been pretty good about leaving packages with the apartment office (although personally I hate when they do that, because the office "isn't responsible for packages" which is a total cop-out crock in my opinion.)

Back on topic though, I think a lot of regressives (sorry, I meant conservatives) are bitter about the election and lashing out at progressive things like racial equality, education funding, transportation funding, the right to a personal arms cache, etc...

As a Sikh, I can't say this is really anything new. There have been cases of beatings and even murder of Sikhs due to post-9/11 American radicalism.

Actually, everyone has the right to live their lives without being called names by ignorant idiots. It's called basic human decency. Yes, there are a handful of terrorists who are Christians or other. The thing is, you don't see Catholic priests standing before their congregations telling people to convert or kill "the infidel." Here in the US... you are wrong. Since Fall of 2001 we've had one successful Islamic fundamentalist attack (9/11) and several more terrorist style attacks from US citizens on US citizens (school shootings, mall shootings, clinic bombings, etc). Of course we stopped the Fort Dix and LAX nuts.

Yep... My UPS carrier is a great guy who I've known for years. I also know some folks who work more on the white collar ( -v- brown collar) side of the company.

Sure... UPS can suck, but they are the largest transportation company in the world. In that light they usually seem to suck like a lot of other corporations of their size (Microsoft, Ford, IBM, Starbucks, etc.). It really comes down to the luck of the draw with many package carriers: FedEx Ground is horrible in some parts of my area... and USPS?? Er.. No thanks.

UPS drivers are Teamsters and those jobs are widely regarded as good ones. Can't imagine this would be a regular driver. UPS also hires tons of temporary non union low pay, no benefit "drivers helpers" between Thanksgiving & Christmas---had to be one of them.

Every Sikh I've ever met has been kind, soft-spoken, and respectful. I have nothing but love for Sikhs. They're very misunderstood because they do have a very stereotypical "terrorist" appearance. UPS is absolutely abhorrent. After the experience I had trying to use them, I will never use them again. I will DRIVE a package to its destination before I use UPS. Scenario- I took part in one of those "free trial!" offers & didn't cancel quickly enough before they started sending me shit & billing me for it. So in order to get back the money they debited from my account, I had to send back the package they sent me. When it finally arrived, I took it to UPS(cause apparently that's who the company goes through) & had them return it to sender. The guy wrote "return to sender" on it & told me to have a nice day.

Fast forward to the next day. Around 6 pm, I find the SAME DAMN PACKAGE on MY doorstep as the UPS truck is speeding away. The stupid fucks delivered it back to ME even though it clearly said RETURN TO SENDER on it. So I wrote REFUSED, RETURN TO SENDER on it in inch-high black letters, circled the return address & drew a big black arrow pointing to it, & took it back to the UPS place. It hasn't been delivered back to me yet so I'm assuming it made it back to the company.

Now, to get my money back, ugh...

I get the best service from UPS actually. My driver even takes the time to put my package in a large plastic bag if I'm not home and it's a wet day.

I'd certainly hope this doesn't make all UPS delivery people look bad, my UPS guy is an uber teddy bear that helped me get a ginormous package into my house earlier this month. He may very well be the civilian alter ego of some sort of superhero as far as I'm concerned.

@snazz: no training that is even close to relevant to that job position would be able to weed out peoples biases towards other people. In fact, even asking people how they feel about a particular race and religion would get the company in a lot of trouble, becasue they could then be viewed as being biased towards the potential employee for his beliefs.

It's just a matter of UPS firing the idiot and apologizing. I wouldn't be surprised if companies like this have a special fund set aside to 'make amends' when one of their drivers does this.
