Overall, they are a good company, but had a hard time finding and keeping their niche.  In the mid 90's they tried to go more upscale to compete with Pottery Barn and Crate &amp; Barrel.  This failed (alienating many long time customers because of big price increases), and in the meantime Target swooped in with cool funky housewares at a lower price point. Really nice people, treat you very well, and the clients are nice too. Some stuff is pricy, but I still go there for my glassware. You can find some pretty inexpensive stuff there on their 2 big sales...and I had to hold off buying that golden frog even though it was sooo cute because it doesnt go with my room. And like I said, they're really good to their employees. There's a ton of stuff there that's not my style, but I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of the less ornate things that also fell into my price range. My office just moved to about a 10-minute walk away from a Pier 1, so my new lunch break activity is a stroll over there and every once in a while purchasing glass tableware and way too many candle holder things. Not the crazy metal statue type things, but that green recycled glass - I love it.</p><br /><p>And very cute tea-light holders. One is shaped like a frog - something about frogs is irrestistable.</p><br /><p>Also had good experiences making returns &amp; the salespeople have been pleasant and not pushy. Why haven't they gotten through to their heads that women like to browse? And when they browse, they tend to mentally list things they want and it makes it more likely they'll buy it if it's online and there are sales or coupon codes or whatever, and even if it's an impulse buy, you have a sale. That said, I bought it on sale, and with my friend's employee discount.  So I got the entire $3000 set for around $500.  The thing's sturdy as hell though, It's been through 2 moves so far, and other a few dings (which happens when you move), it's held up remarkably well.</p><p>While I hope they recover, it doesn't seem too likely.  Around a year ago they sold their multi-million dollar corporate headquarters AND DIDN'T TELL ANYONE!  Vendors only found out when their mail started getting \"returned to sender\".
