Dr. Bronner's soap is the greatest. I prefer the liquid, but the bar form is handy for travel/camping.

@SWAK_GitEmSteveDave loves->★: If you're looking for cheap and reliable, I've used (but not utilized, thank god) a Mossberg 500A Defender for several years now. It'll hold 7+1 2&3/4\" shells, is reliable, and is aluminum so it's very lightweight (which doesn't help with recoil).
And yes, you may not even need to keep it loaded for it to work as the sound if it cycling is an iconic way of saying \"you're fucked.\"

Is it just me, or is that Movado deal incredible? I dont remember ever seeing a Movado for under 400, even after haggling. Or is this just some trumped up \"savings\" that I should be able to get at most jewelry stores?

@philmin: Just goes to show how much of a mark up those watches have. Anyone interested in Movados should stay away from the watches that have the single diamond at the 12 o'clock postition. Those diamonds are very prone to falling out of the setting.

Thanks guys. When I was watch shopping a year ago, I was warned that Movados are the most overpriced watches and that there quality isn't equal to their demand. So many the recession is just bringing out their \"true\" prices and I shouldnt be going gaga over it.

The reason that people shooting defensively sometimes unload all their rounds at once has to do with the fact that if they have to shoot in the first place, there is a good chance they are doing it under less than ideal conditions (dark, moving bad guy, bad guy on drugs, etc.) and have to do all they can to assure that their shots hit the mark and stop the threat.

I'd assume it has a lot more to do with adrenaline and lessening the chances that the shootee survives to sue the officer.
@Hate_Brian_Club: You know, cell phone cameras are so cheap and light these days, why not put them under the barrel of police pistols so they show exactly what the guy was up to, if he looked like he would stop, etc. Or perhaps these cameras could be worn on the uniform and be mandated by law, and they would be activated to record a low-framerate video every time they detect a loud noise, ie a gunshot. It could record locally, or transmit via cell phone communications to the court. I'm thinking a memory buffer that transmits once it's in range is a good idea to compensate for dead spots. The technology is definitely there, and I believe one could outfit each officer with it for $50-80, perhaps less if the officers already carry a more expandable cellphone. In fact, a cellphone alone with special software has most of the required functions (camera, microphone to trigger video, transmitter), so all it may require is a belt clip on the front of the officer.
Police brutality/coercion in interrogations went way down once it was required in Illinois and Detroit that police officers be videotaped while interrogating suspects and those tapes be available to the jury. With the advent of DNA testing, many people who confessed turned out to be innocent, showing this was definitely an issue.
In the interest of full disclosure and the continued swooning for the President-Elect, Obama pushed for the legislation for videotaping while he was a senator.

@Hate_Brian_Club: I understand it's because the bullets are often so high velocity that if they hit straight on and don't hit a bone, they may just pierce through like a skewer. Hollow-point rounds are designed to mushroom out at the tip, increasing the square inches that actually go through the body. Much more punch, but far more deadly.
@speedwell: HPs are actually less deadly. They transfer more energy to the target yet they cause less bleeding because they usually do not make 2 holes to leak from. The are more effective because of the hydrostatic shock they create.

In the famous 86 Miami FBI shootout, Platt was shot under the armpit with a 9mm silver-tip hollow point that severed the pulmonary artery. A mortal wound. Yet he kept fighting for 4 more minutes before he died. He was sober and not wearing a vest.

@Saboth: I've heard from a lot of people that a short barrel or pistol grip shotgun is better than a pistol for home defense.
I can't imagine that if I heard a bump in the night, and went prowling around in the dark, and had to shoot, that I could hit crap with a pistol...a shotgun, though, has a large spread and little penetration, meaning it's more likely you'll hit the intruder, without the shot penetrating walls and hitting someone else.

The ideal would be a combo of a laser sight with a short barrel shotgun. No, you don't need a laser sight with a shotgun, but I'm thinking purely in terms of scaring the baddies. The combo of the noise plus the laser looking for something to shoot, should strongly encourage them to leave.

I once had the idea of making a faux shotgun for people who want the deterrent effect but don't want the gun in their house to shoot little Jimmy and Susie.
Basically, it would be a noisemaker that replicates the \"racking\" sound of a shotgun. I had heard that sometimes burglars will flee just upon hearing the sound, as most burglars aren't carrying a weapon that's anywhere near as effective as a shotgun.

@krztov: well the only way for a blank to kill someone is if a bullet jammed in the barrel... which is what happened with The Crow, there was a bullet jammed and none checked to see if it was in it and loaded it with blanks. when a blank was fired, it acted as a normal bullet as there was one jammed... thus caused it to unjam and sadly kill him.
If your gonna mess with blanks, always check your gun thoroughly, you never know there might be a bullet jammed in it, and if so you now know and can avoid a potentially fatal mistake...

Cars are transportation. When I can use a gun to send myself or someone else anywhere besides the sweet hereafter, I may change my tune.
However, I must explain that I'm Canadian, and the vast majority of gun crimes in my city involved firearms illegally brought from the US. I do understand that Americans need guns to protect themselves from other Americans with guns - I just feel sad that it's so necessary. People from other countries may react the same way as I do.
I will try to understand your point of view, but that doesn't mean I don't fear for your safety. There are enough stupid people out there with cars - we don't need to give them more killin' fodder, and it shouldn't be necessary for smart people to carry deadly weapons just to feel safe in their own homes.

For me, guns are a hobby, a job, and protection. I collect guns. I shoot guns for fun (only at legal places, and following lots of safety protocols). I build simulators that train people (Law Enforcement, Military) to use guns at work (when to use them, how to use them well, as well as when there are better choices). I also have a concealed carry permit and am carrying a concealed weapon as I type this.
Do I feel unsafe enough that I NEED to carry a gun? No. Do I want to be caught unprepared the one time I may need it to save my life or someone elses life? Absolutely not.
I take gun safety very seriously as I am around guns all day, and at home I have a one year old daughter, so all of my guns are either in a safe, or completely inaccessible (and have the safety on just in case).
Gun laws do nothing to protect law abiding citizens, because criminals by definition are not going to abide by those laws. Just ask England, where after the gun bans were in place, gun violence became much more of a problem, because now the citizens are sitting ducks. I don't know what the situation is like in Canada however, as I have not studied those statistics.

I honestly don't know what the laws are here in Canada. All's I know is that it's really not that easy to find/buy a gun, and it's permit city if you do. I don't know ANYONE who owns a handgun, but I know plenty who have hunting guns. Maybe I'm going out on a limb when I speculate that you can't buy a handgun unless you're a cop or something, and it's wicked hard to conceal a rifle.
That said, up in Canada, guns don't kill people. Tasers do.

I mean, if you really absolutely have to kill someone and get away with it, or sneak a gun into your work to kill someone, or to have a gun around to kill your family or kill your kids or kill your spouse, or kill someone who's different than you, hell, even just to blindly shoot it off in hopes of killing someone far away, this is the thing to get!
I mean, I'm sure there's other uses for a handgun besides murdering people...oh, no wait...that's pretty much all they do.

Wait... what? Civilians can not LEGALLY buy armor piercing rounds. So that point is moot. Besides, your standard hunting rifle round can pierce armor. Ban those too.
Home defense, yes, a shotgun may be enough. Walking around the streets? Sorry, but I'll have my pistol on me. Maybe I made a mistake needing to go into areas that are \"unsafe\", but I didn't know crime had borders. Perhaps criminals come upon a city and say \"This is a nice town... we'd better not rob anyone here.\"
People who leave guns around for their kids to find are idiots and need to be punished. A locked up gun is fine, but make sure its locked up in a safe that you can open while stressed, groggy, etc.
Responsible gun owners do NOT blindly fire off whereever they want. Responsible guns owners follow the 4 rules of firearms safety: Treat all guns as though they are loaded. Keep finger off trigger. Never point the gun at anything you don't want to destroy. Make sure of your target, whats behind and around it. Its the irresponsible ones we need to watch out for.
Banning handguns is not an answer. I'm sorry, Chicago banned handguns, and its a very crime free area! Wait... something isn't right. No guns should mean no crime, but I guess thats not always true.
Besides, some grandma walking up the street sees a big criminal coming up to her. Yes, she can give up and she may get away. Or, she can use the great equalizer.

I'm all for allowing the right to bare arms, but...where does it say you have to be able to buy armor piercing rounds, semi-automatics, handguns, etc.
Allow each household 1-2 long barrel guns like a rifle and shotgun. That is all you need for self defense.
Get a house alarm. More effective than a gun for preventing robbery and less chance of getting yourself or a family member killed. Of course if you are looking to actually kill someone, go with the gun.

@picantel: Like any parent should(gun owner or not), make sure you enroll your child in a NRA safety course first. [www.nrahq.org] or call your local PD to see if they know a saftey course available nearby. All children should know what a gun is and what to do if they ever encounter/are given one. And by \"what to do\", I mean how to safely handle it/avoid it so an accident doesn't occur, and then know to alert someone. As the son of a cop, there was almost always a gun in my house. I respected that gun, b/c I had been taken down to the range and had seen what they could do. I knew the difference between a toy and a real gun, so if I had ever encountered a real gun in someones house, I would know to get out as soon as possible. There are more fingers on my hand than there are times my Father let me hold his sidearm, which was usually during cleanings when he knew it was unloaded and on full safety. I didn't point it at anything or pull the trigger(as I had been taught), but I then knew what a \"real\" weapon felt like, and was thankful my Dad had it so he could come home to me every night.
All I have to say is that Movados aren't worth the price. I used to sell watches and wow....it's not that they're bad, but the customers that bought movados were ones that hadn't done their research and were more fixated on the style they were getting for $1K than the quality.

That's a great deal on GH II.
@noone1569: It's actually much better. The 'bundle' is made such that the GH II game is marked down to $5, and the Xplorer is the regular online price of $20. When you go to the store, the in-store guitar price is $10.
Remember how CC announced that they price-match their online to instore and vice versa now? It's automatic from the register now, so the bundle will price adjust itself to $15 for game+guitar and extra guitar.
How do I know this? I bought this yesterday from CC.
