@Ben Popken: I realize that, Ben. But it makes me engage in a personal dialogue of "What if it WERE paid content?". What if the companies who it is your job to "out" for dangerous, unethical, inappropriate or unfair conduct, suddenly become the companies paying your salary? I have seen morning deals quite a few times that made me wonder to myself how many times Consumerist has cautioned readers against those products. I leave it to individuals to decide, but is a very dangerous product a good deal at ANY price? I wouldn't serve tainted dog food to my puppy or put crocs on my kids if they were giving them away free (my choice, of course). But, is there a point at which Consumerist does a DISservice by, for example, not including a footnote warning of the dangerous of which Consumerist is aware? I don't know the answer, but it's food for thought and clearly relevant to your readers.

Yeah, yeah. You think it's a sign of intelligence, or your piety, or your sophistication that you don't use words like "piss" and "fuck." Well, it's really not. At least not the way you're using them. If you're one of those guys who thinks swearing indicates a lack of creativity, you have to actually, you know, be creative with your language - not simply bowdlerize popular (but profane) sayings by infantile substitution.

Ben will write post after post after post attacking a product, but turn around and shill for it right off. It confuses the message, though I hope (but don't necessarily believe) that the majority of Consumerist readers are smart enough not to buy a bad product even at a cheap price.

@420greg: Oh, dear. Very same thing for the Deadwood box set coming out next week. The original price was higher on Borders than on B&N or even the HBO shop--but I still thought I was getting a deal with the marked-down price of $123. Until I saw your comments and checked Amazon: $108.

I visited Borders "Customer Care" to cancel (it hasn't shipped yet), but they don't allow you to cancel an order once it's submitted. I think that's a $15 lesson learned for me.
