Haha I walked into my local Circuit City and bought some Dynamat for $20 a pop and the license plate Dynamat for only $8! but to get back onto topic, I nearly fell on the floor laughing when all the shelves had big "DO NOT SELL" signs on them and the employee's only door had it too.

I was part of the sharper image fiasco and I gotta say...someone's breaking policy. Gordon Brothers bought all this equipment along with everything else and when the signs say "All Fixtures, Furnature, and Equipment"....that's what they meant. Looks to me like an associate or one of the Gordon Brothers has their eye on this sweet piece of equipment....a terminable offence if someone's "Holding Something Back"...With these liquidators, they wanna make a profit on EVERYTHING!!! If you see something like this, ask an associate...if you really want it...they HAVE to sell it, unless it has one of those fugly orange sold stickers on it. I bought a bed from Linen's and Things for $100, they're using the same process I went through as well.

the dumb terminal they kept but the cash draw was stuck to it so they left it :p (didnt tell them i bolted it there when i worked there from the inside) easy to remove with a ratchet rinch :)

Ah memories (amazingly its the orginal keosk and it still has my name written inside it :)

@mbz32190: Part of my job at CompUSA when it was closing was to sell the bolted down crap. I would look at it, set a price, then tell the customer they were responsible for removing it.

@lockdog: My friend bought really awesome cube-style poster board racks when a local craft shop went out of business. She's an artist so she saved a TON buying them that way, you can get awesome deals on fixtures and stuff when stores close.

Actually, they most likely will sell that fire extinguisher during the last two days of liquidation. Everything goes - shelves, counters, anything that's not actually a part of the building will get sold..... just not yet.

@Nighthawke: I thought of that - it was going to be our next stop. In the hectic-ness of moving & new job & not knowing a new city, I figured we would be able to find a fire extinguisher at the same time we were picking up shower curtains, etc. Didn't have any opportunity to look up the nearest hardware store - but I'm sure Spring will present a reason to find one.

When I worked at Best Buy, there was some idiot who came in an hounded me about selling him the DVD player that the in-store audio system was played from. I eventually had to get a manager to tell the guy that it wasn't for sale.

When our local CompUSA went out I saw people buying the lights in the ceiling, the cameras and pa system, the slatwall, even the trash cans in the entrance. I do remember that they couldn't sell the shopping carts or POS systems, as these are actually rented. This must be quite common, as there don't seem to be many companies out there selling used checkout scanners and other POS equipment. And if you can get it, that reinforced slatwall (with the aluminum strips in the grooves)is awesome in shops or garages, and is normally hundreds of dollars per sheet.

@oneandone: Ensure you keep it up to date and check it often. My old apartment (that I was renting from the owner, not a coordinated management or anything) had 2 in the place, both of which were empty and/or expired. When I actually NEEDED it, I had to throw water on the fire instead. Not fun.

It would be useful if they did - a few months ago I was looking for a small fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen, and had to check in a few different stores. Frustrating & concerning - they're good to have around, and I'd thought homewares stores would have them. If I thought there might be one at Circuit City, I might have considered going there.

(Eventually found one at Kmart. Not expensive, and reduced our renter's insurance by a bit. Hopefully we'll never have to use it!)

As a former Fire Warden, this does pose a fire hazard (obstructing fire extinguishers).

Hope they remove it soon, but a funny photo nonetheless.
