A Dallas production company was one of the first in the 80's to do infomercials to sell products. The guy who ran it would get cases and cases of whatever crap he was hawking. Most of the time he'd need to go through 40 or 60 items of new product to find ones made well enough to do what was needed to be shown in the 10 minute commercial.
After that I always think of this mantra when I see stuff on TV, \"only the best make it in front of the camera the rest goes to the dumpster.\"

THis is one of the most epic shop at home videos ever. I've LOVED these videos. Other ace videos are of Mike Rowe on QVC... search for them, the cat bag, the crazy doll lady, all of them are money.

I've been in the martial arts for about 48 years, and the demonstrator you don't give weapons to fools. The katana is not a stick, and there is a correct way to hold and use it. It is funny though.
@ageshin: There is no correct way to use one of these crappy replica katanas. They're just for show. That was his first and biggest mistake. Anyone who knows anything about the construction of one of these - as compared to a real katana - will tell you not to even swing one in the air, let alone bang one against the table. They are dangerous to even own.
Real katanas are so hard that they're practically indestructible. If you don't believe it, there are a couple of Mythbusters episodes out there that you might like to see. Real katanas are hand-folded carbon steel; the replicas are pressed stainless steel. One is ridiculously strong and somewhat flexible, the other is brittle and weak.

I used to watch these guys sell beanie babies when I'd stay up until 7am every night (not much else to watch when you don't have cable). You haven't lived until you've seen 3 middle-aged southern men extoll the virtues of Princess the Bear.

I'd never seen it before, even if it is old. You have to hand it to Rowe-he remained composed, and got himself and his injury off-camera instantly.

Along those lines in the early 80's a cousin of mine was traveling the US flogging imitation corningware tempered glass cookware. The real stuff takes a wild beating before ever breaking... Well, one day he did a demo for us with the product and one thing they did to show how strong it is was to whack against a table and produce a hell of a noise, but of course not break the product. He confided in us that he had to practice this move extensively because if you didn't do it absolutely right the product would explode.
We all got a great laugh from the demo and stories of flogging this crap to the students in high cafeterias. I hope his Karma didn't take too bad a hit from this job.
Anyway, so watching the sword guy stab himself by slapping the table with the sword suggest he didn't spend enough time learning the demo... It also suggests that this product is not a toy and maybe shouldn't be sold in this way.
