Acrobat doesn't ask you to opt-in until after you've downloaded the PDF, so you get the book content regardless of whether you choose the ads or not. If the digital book was actually well produced, (i.e. with properly embedded fonts, and not all full of low-res jpg artifacts, etc.) and on a subject I was interested in, I'd be much happier to send the author $5.00 or something, rather than letting Adobe and Yahoo earn money by forcing yet more ad creep into the world.</p> </div>	<div class=\"reply\"> <div class=\"reply-button\"><a title=\"Reply\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"mtReplyCommentOnClick(3595748, 'Kierst_thara')\">Reply</a></div> <!-- if it's a top level category ' --> </div><!-- end reply- button --> </div></div> <!-- Display comment (top level parent) --> </div>","<div class=\"comments-content\"> <div class=\"comment\" id=\"comment-3602090\"> <div class=\"inner\"> <div class=\"user-pic\"> <a href=\"\"><img src=\"/css/images/default.gif\" width=\"60\" height=\"60\" alt=\"user-pic\" /></a> </div> <div class=\"comment-header\"> <div class=\"asset-meta\"> <div class=\"vcard author\">coronado </div> <div class=\"comment-date\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/2008/01/new-downloadable-movie-book-tests-yahooadobe-ad-system.html#comment-3602090\"><abbr class=\"published\" title=\"2008-01-08T18:51:38-05:00\">January 8, 2008 6:51 PM</abbr></a></div> <div class=\"comment-moderate\"><span><a href=\"javascript:moderateComment(3602090);\">Moderate</a> |</span><a href='javascript:void(0)' onClick=\"return moderate(this, 'http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/Moderate/moderate.cgi?__mode=flag&comment_id=3602090');\">Flag for review</a></div> </div> </div><!-- end comment header --> <div class=\"comment-content\"> <p>Oh fantastic. Sometimes contextual advertising is a win-win. Usually it's irrelevant crap.</p><p>As for the fonts, they do look terrible in FoxIt, but look fine in Acrobat7. Are there still print fonts and screen fonts? Maybe he chose the former.</p><p>And as for the jpeg artifacts, the content seems to be more than 50% images.
