45 of 50 States See Increase In Foreclosures

The third quarter foreclosure numbers are in and 45 of 50 states saw increases in foreclosure activity, though some, like Ohio, Michigan, California, Arizona, Nevada and Florida, were much worse than others.

Overall, foreclosures are up 30% from last quarter and 100% from last year. Nationwide, there was 1 foreclosure filing for every 196 households.

The problem with Hawaii on the map is that there is too much empty space between it and the mainland. Maybe it wouldn't be eliminated from maps so often if we could move it in closer to California?? ;)

@tadowguy: Actually, I don't live there anymore, but we're looking to move back. I was curious as to what the market there was looking like.

It's more a comment on how maps of the US often don't include the ENTIRE country, and how most people don't even notice it.

Just heard on the radio that WaMu and a mortgage broker in CA conspired to inflate appraisals in order to generate larger loans and thus larger fees for the broker and profit for WaMu.

Ohio's terrible because of builders like MI & Dominion approving everybody for "no money down" loans (they tacked the downpayment to the loan!), and doing interest only loans. Those who were smart enough not to finance through their builders still can't sell, since there are so many houses for auction for well under appraised value.

Sucks.
