Or differently, the phone doesn't need to be able to do anything special for this to work.</p><p>Having said this, there are two ID numbers being submitted to the switch anytime you sign in:</p><p>1. The IMEI Number of the phone, which is a global identifier, meaning, this number belongs ONLY to your phone, and your phone only. It also identifies what kind of phone it is.<br />2. The SIM card info.</p><p>What T-Mobile COULD be doing is tying the SIM to a specific IEMI number and thus locking anybody out who does not have the right phone.</p><p>Are they doing this? Probably not, but then they are a cell phone company and those have not really been \"nice\" in the last 20 years or so.</p>        </div>	<div class=\"reply\">	 <div class=\"reply-button\"><a title=\"Reply\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"mtReplyCommentOnClick(834060, 'thedarkerside.to')\">Reply</a></div>		<!-- if it's a top level category ' -->		    </div><!-- end reply- button -->    </div></div>        <!-- Display comment (top level parent) -->    </div>","<div class=\"comments-content\">        <div class=\"comment\" id=\"comment-835177\">    <div class=\"inner\">	 <div class=\"user-pic\">                <a href=\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/stirwise/\"><img src=\"/css/images/default.gif\"         width=\"60\" height=\"60\" alt=\"user-pic\" /></a>            </div>        <div class=\"comment-header\">            <div class=\"asset-meta\"> <div class=\"vcard author\"><a title=\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/stirwise/\" href=\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/stirwise/\" rel=\"nofollow\">kerry</a>    </div>				<div class=\"comment-date\"><a href=\"http://consumerist.com/2007/01/rumor-t-mobile-my-faves-doesnt-require-a-special-handset.html#comment-835177\"><abbr class=\"published\" title=\"2007-01-12T15:27:14-05:00\">January 12, 2007  3:27 PM</abbr></a></div>				<div class=\"comment-moderate\"><span><a href=\"javascript:moderateComment(835177);\">Moderate</a> |</span><a href='javascript:void(0)' onClick=\"return moderate(this, 'http://consumerist.com/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/Moderate/moderate.cgi?__mode=flag&comment_id=835177');\">Flag for review</a></div>            </div>        </div><!-- end comment header -->        <div class=\"comment-content\">            <p>That's weird.
